Gilbert Self-Medicates With Tomfoolery

Considering that this is the Season of Arenas, All-Star Weekend was a big one for Agent Zero. Not only because he's our "our first Web 2.0 all-star," but also because a three-point contest and starting job on the Eastern squad were his to be exploited. Popular opinion may be that he dropped the ball on both counts (losing to Jason Kapono and scoring just eight points), but vox populi isn't always spot-on.

The first of these two was the three-point contest, where Zero Hero's personality emerged with the last rack of the competition, which he decided to shoot one-handed, sinking two of them. Of course, Arenas has some experience with that, but to see it during an All-Star Saturday event was something else altogether.

Even better than the one-handed 24-footers were Gil's shenanigans during the game itself. With the East down big and down late, a gang of flying Elvises took the court during a TV timeout to dunk off of trampolines. Unbelievably, Gilbert decided to join the impersonators and give it a go ...

I still can't believe he did that, risking needless injury and embarrassment in the eyes of the world ... and totally pulling it off. Absolutely brilliant and absolute Gilbert. Here's to hoping his MVP campaign and the Wizards' Southeast division championship aspirations regain steam heading into the season's second half.

And because FanHouse did such a wonderful job covering the NBA in Vegas, here are more links from the weekend that was ...

Update: Awful Announcing reveals the tramp dunk was the result of a bet with Shaq, DC Sports Bog says Gil has a history with trampolines. I love both of these items, although neither is a surprise.
