Pete Rose for Aqua Velva: 'Smell Like a Man'
While we anxiously await the surfacing of photos from last night's DC sports bloggers happy hour (success!), let's watch this 1970's Pete Rose commercial. It's an Aqua Velva ad starring the Hit King and a pretty lady forced to act like she's actually buying Charlie's hustle. Fortunately, I've only seen Anchorman once, so I haven't memorized the lines well enough to make any Ron Burgundy or Sex Panther jokes.
It should be known that this is not the only instance where Rose used his overt manliness to shill a product, no sir. There was also this rather unfortunate 1977 Jockey campaign featuring pro athletes in tighties ...
Yikes. Not machosensual. Not one bit. To quote Swapatorium, "Caveman chic. UGH!" Follow the link for more athletes in their underwear, including fellow baseball HOFers Jim Palmer and Steve Carlton. The Carlton one is especially daring as it seems that the Lefty had a thing for onesies. Double yikes.
Note: Apologies for the redundant nature of this post, as I've written of these Jockey ads before.

Having Pete Rose selling your underwear in that manner is not unlike having Nicole Ritchie sell your hamburger stand in commerical by eating one of your Big Macs, then vomiting it up for the camera.
Jesus... all those girls at Smith were RIGHT. Men are disgusting. -
