Dwight Howard One Ups His Sticker Dunk
That right there is Dwight Howard's Kiss-the-Rim Dunk, which he would have broken out had he made the finals of this year's Dunk Contest. Follow the link to see more of what Howard had in store, including an alley-oop where he (accidentally) hits the back of his head on the damn rim. Fortunately, a Greg Louganis-style injury and subsequent fall from grace did not occur.
Many thanks to J.E. Skeets for unearthing this in FanHouse, as this jam, along with the Sticker Dunk, preserves Howard's rightful place amongst the folk heroes of slam dunking lore. That said, nothing should be taken away from this year's champ, Gerald Green. His Off-the-Side-of-the-Backboard alley-oop was a thing of beauty, and the Dee Brown-Over-Nate Robinson dunk was still the highlight of the contest for me.
And speaking of Skeets, the Canadian wonderkind has an uncanny knack for finding phenomenal-yet-obscure NBA video on the tubes. Here are three more recent gems:
