Grading the Redskins' Dance and Offseason Moves
Thanks to Daniel Snyder's handling of the Redskins, March brings with it profound sadness. Even this year, when the Burgundy & Gold shows relative restraint, the specter of Deion and Archuleta and Brunell looms larger than Jeff George's mullet and subsequent signing bonus. You'd think I'd be used to it by now, but the yearly turnover makes me harken back to Joe Gibbs' glory run from '82-'91. It's hard not remembering when your childhood team won three Super Bowls while featuring the same cast of characters year after year.
This may be my own personal version of revisionist history, but the continuity of those teams was remarkable ... Darrell Green playing lockdown corner, Jeff Bostic anchoring the Hogs, Gary Clark catching the deep ball and Charles Mann killing quarterbacks. Speaking of, all four of these godheads figure prominently in this 1987-ish rap video uncovered by DC Sports Bog (congrats on baby Ida, Steinz!) that may or may not have been the Skins' answer to da Bears' Super Bowl Shuffle ...
Wow, that's just a gem of a video (Hogs Haven, Saved by the Blog and With Leather also picked it up). Too bad Art Monk, Dave Butz, Dexter Manley and Donnie Warren couldn't have been more involved. But let's move on to the signings the Skins have or have not made over the past few days ...
1. Grabbing middle linebacker London Fletcher from Buffalo for what will likely be $15 million over three years is a calculated risk, and anyone who witnessed the horrendous production from Washington's linebackers last year can attest that this is a needed upgrade. Grade: B2. Speaking of horrendous, we may never hear the names Kenny Wright and Mike Rumph ever again, because my favorite post-Green, pre-Clinton Portis Redskin is back. I can knock the dust off my SMOOT jersey! The former #21 was pretty damn good opposite Champ Bailey back, and I don't see why he can't be the same opposite Carlos Rogers (or as a nickelback with Rogers and Shawn Springs). Grade: A+++
3. I'm glad Snyder didn't overpay for guard play in the form of ex-Skin Derrick Dockery or ex-Card Leonard Davis. Best of luck to those guys in Buffalo and Dallas, respectively, but look how paying $50 million for a guard worked out for the Vikings last year. Grade: B-
So, yeah, three-for-three, in my opinion. Of course, it's only March 5. Dre Bly could still be had from Denver. Somebody's got to play left guard. And it's never too late to make some scrub the highest-paid player at his position in the history of the NFL. So stay on top of it like Bostic on a synthesized beat by visiting Redskins Insider and Redskins FanHouse early and often.
Update: No, the Redskins didn't sign Michael Strahan. I just feel the need to share other rap songs from teams of the '80s, namely the '86 Mets and '87 Flames, both of which are fantastic.

And nevermind my last comment, big luke signed with the Bucs. What a shame.

What about the amazing signing of Luke Petitgout?! He's only like 42, I think.
And I really hope our corners are Spings and Smoot with Rodgers as the nickel. If he drops one more INT, I'll kill myself.
