Blog Show No. 1: 'A Colossal Failure'
Broadcasting is a bitch, especially when the little red camera light switches on to notify all involved of just how unprepared you really are. From there it's a slick slope, like New Balance on a sheet of ice. At least that's where we were with the debut of Blog Show Friday night after arriving at the studio at 5:30 only to have our script literally flipped and go on-air at 6 with just one rehearsal to our credit. Due to mental blackout, I had to watch the video to remember what happened next, but in summary ...
We make brief introductory remarks (something about "social miscreants") followed by a hard-hitting discussion of blog-related stuff (Gilbert, Ballers With Randoms and Billy Packer) and then bring on Brian Powell from Awful Announcing, our first. guest. ever. But no one watching remembers any of that. What they know is Steinz throws to video of Gus Johnson, and the clip doesn't play. YouTube just keeps loading and not playing. Dead air. Hurrying along, nothing to see here ... We wrap the interview, mention something about me becoming the next ESPN.com editor-in-chief, talk about cheese for what seems like no reason whatsoever and follow with our big finish, the YouTube Moment of the Week. And it doesn't play either. More loading. More uncertainty. And, finally, total collapse. In the end, Bog Man Dan mercifully handed the keys back to the Washington Post Live host Russ Thaler, who charitably took the dumbstruck audience to break. Coming out of commercial, Russ asked SportsNite anchor Chris Miller for a review of Blog Show. Miller, who was initially rendered speechless, proceeded to do his best Simon Cowell, which was a lame, bizarre and ultimately mixed review. (Thanks for the motivation, Miller!)
OK, a lot to chew on there, and please use the comments to do so. Honest, thoughtful and funny criticism would be appreciated. We -- Steinz, Blog Show producer Littles and I -- are going back to the lab with a pen and a (mouse)pad and coming back strong next week and beyond. Really, we just don't want to have to hear the Comcast SportsNet brain trust throw around the term "colossal failure" anymore. That said, enjoy the clips and spread the word while we step our game up ...

If the show is going to have a no-makeup, glitch-filled, public access feel to it, why not go the whole way with public access style graphics and music? At least it would give you guys some leeway with the audience if things happen to go a bit astray and let you gain a comfort level at the same time.
Oh, and Chris Miller can get on deez nutz. -
my new goal in life is to someday be featured on a blogging show....

Great idea for a show, and I hope you continue to keep posting them on the internet. The only comment I have is maybe you could change the make up of the set. The colors give it too much of an EPSN/Sportcenter appeal to it- unless you guys are tring to spoof them with that look and the exact opposite of wardrobe. Help me out with this one if you are.

Nice work Jamie! You and Agent Steinz are a paler Eric B. and Rakim. Or not. Either way, nice to see bloggers in the bigtime spotlight.
