Don't Let Your Daughters Go to The U.
I've held off on posting about Miami's 'Seventh Floor Crew' song because, well, this is a PG (maybe PG-13) blog and the lyrics are dirtier than LaVar Arrington's BVDs after a Dallas game. But now that it's ESPN.com's most-sent story this morning, I'll stop censoring myself. Just to get you caught up a l'il bit, here's the chorus:
"If your ho only know
That she was gettin' [bleep] on the 7th flo'
If that bitch only knew
That she was gettin' muddied by the whole damn crew."
Of course the nine-minute song is misogynistic and whatnot, but, more than anything, it's a bunch of college kids being hilarious ... and the beat's tight too. Anyway, Miami WR Sinorice Moss (great name) confirms the existence of the two-year old song in an ESPN.com chat yesterday, and Pat Forde covers the story today:
"A group calling itself the 7th Floor Crew -- the name reportedly comes from the seventh floor of the Mahoney Residential College, campus housing at Miami -- made a recording referencing multiple acts of group sex, derogatory terms for women and minorities and dozens of curse words that lasts approximately 9 minutes. School officials say the song was recorded two years ago, but that seems to offer little solace."
LB Tavares Gooden, #52, is in the Crew.
The Mighty MJD reacts to the ESPN coverage:
"I don't think there's any reason for the mainstream media to be portraying the lifestyle favored by the 7th Floor Crew, and by yours truly, in a negative light. We gangbang hoes. That's what we do. Don't disrespect."
And the blog where this all began, Miamity, is not happy with Forde and ESPN:
"Pat Forde manufactured a scandal about a stupid song that was irrelevant to anything. I don't know what journalism school Forde attended but it certainly wasn't the one here at UM, because I'm sure they would have taught him the difference between actualsports news and irrelevant hype."
Because timing is on our side, today's edition of Sports Bloggers Live will have Mr. Forde as our featured college football guest. I'll post the interview later today.
Update: Saved by the Blog thinks the Seventh Floor Crew "should be admired and respected."
Update: Here's the SBL interview with Pat Forde -- nearly seven minutes of us discussing the Seventh Floor Crew.
Update: Mr. Irrelevant friends Sportz Assassin and High Above Courtside are on the case.
