Rep. Mary Bono Mack faces challengers in June re-election bid
10:00 PM PDT on Wednesday, March 19, 2008
Rep. Mary Bono Mack has successfully beaten back every Democratic challenger since taking office in 1998, but that isn't stopping three Democrats from vying for her job this year.
Julie Bornstein, aformer assemblywoman, is kicking off her campaign Wednesday with events in Palm Desert and Moreno Valley, to be followed by another appearance Saturday in Hemet. Bornstein describes herself as a nonprofit housing executive now.
Paul Clay, a teacher and businessman, also is running for the Democratic nomination in the 45th Congressional District, as is David E. Hunsicker, a business owner.
Also of note is the field in the Republican primary. Mack, R-Palm Springs, is being challenged in the June election by Republican George Pearne, a retired teacher and salesman.
