Love Quilts and AIDS

If there is anyone left out there who didn't see this amazing piece of graphic art, I didn't want you to miss it! ;-)
If you go back to her journal from this linking page you will see the squares all nicely lined up!
Remember the AIDS quilts? Yesterday I read an article complete with stunning portraits in Newsweek. Time does not allow right now, but later I may try and scan the statistic page. The numbers blew me away. From memory I can briefly say this: 73% of the millions afflicted are in S Africa. Of the US afflicted it's the highest with Blacks, men and on the East coast. I know all kinds of research are important and I'm glad we hear a lot about breast cancer these days, but has the public forgotten HIV/AIDS or are we just in denial that there is still no cure? Among the portraits in the article are a fourth grade boy (straight A student) and a 25 year old pregnant woman photographed beautifully in a field (thanks to HIV drugs and her HIV negative husband, the baby has only a 10% chance of being infected) More later...I have to go beat the rain coming. ;-)

Love Shelly's quilt! My oldest daughter works in AIDS research at the University of Pittsburgh. They are working diligently every day searching for a cure for HIV/AIDS so it's not forgotten; just not spoken of in the media that much. HUGS Chris

hiya Sassy!
oh nooooo! I never have forgottne about it.. especially since Africa will not provide adequate social um guidance to make it less of a problem and since our current admin has given over one million in the past two years to trying to get rid of it. I don't know if youare current with what the Gates Foundation has been doing alot and spending a few million to try to get rid of it in Africa(Intel). I alos never forget it becasue my three kdis are talking about trying toget rid of it around the world all of the time!
