Feeling Mischievous
How do you fall?
My tablemates consist of four other ladies. I'm the youngest at 65, Jean is 74, Mary is 82, Bessie is 88 and Betty is so new we don't know how old she is yet. She was a German war bride who is tall, thin and regal. She has the appearance of being frail and has recently fallen a couple of times. This seems to be frightening to her. One day she asked me if I'd ever fallen much.
I grinned at her and said "Honey, I'm the Queen of falls." I got my first pair of crutches at age 6 and it was almost a daily or weekly thing for me. My dad would always lean over, look to see if there was any blood or injury, then if not, say "Get up and try it again!" That would always anger me, but now I'm glad he did it.
I didn't attempt stairs until I was 8 and that attempt ended up with me falling from the top head first. I'd a been a millionaire if I'd gotten $1 for each flight of stairs I fell down by the time I stopped walking in 1998! Did I ever break anything? No. Had bruises and bumps and that's all. However, I will add I was never a graceful lander. I usually went down like a ton of bricks!
