There's Hope for Geeks Everywhere

I already knew that, but it's always good to see a prominent sabermetrician hired by a major league ballclub. Bill James isn't the only statistically-inclined guy in a major league front office. Keith Woolner, the guy who invented VORP (one of the up and coming sabermetric statistics) and Baseball Prospectus writer, was hired by the Cleveland Indians.

Woolner hasn't written a whole lot for BP these days, but he's clearly one of the brightest stars in the performance analysis galaxy, and while it's sad to see him leave one of my must-check Web sites every day, how can you begrudge him such an opportunity. I wonder if he had to beat out Murray Chass for the job?
