Back in NY

I went to London for ten days to work with a British lyricist on a project that I'm hoping will fall into place.  British lyricist, American composer.  The subject matter is large and represents a considerable challenge and opportunity.  One of the problems writing plays is mostly you have to keep the cast size down, so you tend to be boxed into domestic plays.  Big musicals (and this would be one) often engage the epic and historic, so you get to have the fun of taking on large stuff.

Saw a lot of theatre while I was in London.  One night, Claudia Christian and Colin Stinton organized a reading of Flyovers in Claudia's London apartment.  They were splendid.  Claudia is particularly enthusiastic about another of my plays, With and Without, and I had the happy surprise of receiving e-mails from a London producer who wants to put it up with her in the UK this fall.  How swell is that!  (I'm just about to start directing a small production of With and Without in Westchester, and there is a possibility some people might put some dough together for me to direct it as a digital film.  (I've already written the screen adaptation.)

Other good news -- it looks like I Sent a Letter to My Love will get a follow-up production in a theatre outside of Philly called Act II.  And I got news that The Value of Names is in rehearsal in Pasadena.  Put this together with the rumor of another production of Names in a major regional (don't want to jinx it by saying which) and the two production of Court-Martial at Ft. Devens scheduled for next season, it should be a pretty busy year coming up.

Also have a lot of travel ahead -- Alaska, Seattle, the O'Neill Center, the Maine International Film Festival, Chicago, Big Indian (near Woodstock), the Stratford Festival in Ontario and probably London again.  I'm going to be running workshops in most of these places.  Anybody in the neighborhood, drop me a note and I'll give you details.
