Come Out and Play with Me
Rock the Vote will be bringing the party to DC next month to honor political icons such as Senators Barack Obama and John McCain and the funky band, Black Eyed Peas. The rumor is even they're tired of singing Let's Get it Started (or Let's Get Retarded as the original title reads). Anyway, tickets are on sale now by yours truly. I learned about the event via email when I was invited to volunteer for the host committee. I guess Rock the Vote found out about my awesomely bad work for the last Democratic National Committee event. Hey, a helping hand is a helping hand. I have until June to sell at least $1,000 worth of tickets. It may sound relatively easy to you but it's been rough. I have sold 0 tickets. Hey, we're not talking about Girl Scout cookies here. The cheapest ticket is $250. Selling this amount will earn me a ticket to the event as well as the after party in DC. I don't know where the after party will be but it's guaranteed to be a star-studded event. I know Bill will be there, anyway.

Hearing AOL Radio: NPR
He Shoots, He Scores
Last Saturday the FI and I hit Washington DC's MCI Center to watch the Wizards play the 76'ers. My FI is a huge fan of the 76'ers and I am a huge fan of Chris Webber so both parties were fairly excited about the evening. We arrive to find out that the discount tickets we purchased off of AmericanExpress.com were actually five rows behind the basket. Can't beat that! I had full view of Iverson, Juan Dixon, and oh Ted Leonsis (see below for my failed attempt to capture an injured Iverson on the sidelines).

It was a star-studded event. Moments into the game, my FI's coworker, Brian, runs up to us with some great news. Here's the background on why he was at the arena. Brian is an attorney during the day and passionate fan at night. He's the guy you see taking off his shirt and exposing his big round, pale belly. Yep! Well, his exposure led him to a gig dancing around with a group of men doing stunts, while throwing t-shirts out into the crowd and overall keeping folks entertained. Apparently, the PR folks at the stadium saw him and were so enthused they hired him to be a part time entertainer at home games. Since he knew we were coming to the game he arranged for my FI to have the opportunity to join in the free throw contest at half time. Imagine our surprise when he told us that my FI would have 45 seconds to make five baskets and win $100 for each basket made. If he got all five he could shoot for $50,000 from half court!
How cool is that? With a wedding to pay for I was already thinking of how I could have a Star Jones wedding. No really, I was thinking savings all the way (ha!).
Half time arrives and a small fragile woman wearing a headset that weighed more than her runs up to us and grabs my FI. Off he went. He was taken backstage where he had to put on a t-shirt with the sponsoring company's logo. A few minutes later he ran out on the court and the music began playing. The crowd was cheering. People were clapping. I was up and out of my seat, video taping every moment of it with my Treo. I later found out I wasn't the best director. I seem to have a shaky hand. The footage is nauseating! I digress. So my FI shoots one. Swoosh! Two. Swoosh.Three. Swoosh. He goes on to make all five! I scream like I had just won a million dollars. Next, he runs to the half court line and shoots again. Ladies and gentlemen my heart stopped beating for at least five seconds. The ball flies into the air in slow motion. I feel like I'm trapped in a Jordan commercial. Time stands still. Until... the ball... flies past... the basket. Darn it! So we walk away winners but not with the $50,000.
Ah well. I still had the time of my life!

Back from the Dead
Okay, okay. I am ashamed to admit it but I literally fell off the face of the earth. Thanks to my audience of readers I'm back and ready to update my blog yet again. While I was in hiatus my lovely fan base still had my back. This is what all 3 of you wrote to me in support:
"Found your site through google, it's nice, but you should update it. Just because Bush won doesn't mean you should give up and allow the far right destroy the country." ~ Member

I will admit that after the loss I was numb for several weeks. I almost expected the office to close or something as if we had endured a national tragedy. Then I rose up, remembered that I'm still a damn American, thank you very much and that if I'm so pissed about it then I need to do something about it. I am not going to riot nor rally outside the White House. I support our President. I said that and didn't laugh this time, by the way. I don't agree with the direction he's taken with this country but we're here now. I want to be a part of the solution. I'm still a proud member of the DNC. I am already thirsty for 2008 and preparing for what seems like a long time away. It's really not.
In addition to my political involvement I've also gotten engaged. Some brave soul took a risk on me. Lucky guy, right? So in addition to political diva I have added wedding planner to my resume. Hopefully, I won't have a case of the JLoand be writing about my second husband in a year. Sorry J.Lo fans.
Finally, I'm doing my best to get back into the DC social scene this coming spring. I've added a weight loss journal (love makes you fat) but sorry gang you will not be traveling down that road with me. I need to be trim and fit for all the lavish parties my fiance and I plan to hit (or crash) this year. We've decided to use our intelligence and charm to take over the world. If that doesn't work there's always reality TV.

Cheney Fails the Memory Game

Wait, what's this I see? Oh, that's right. It's Cheney sitting right next to Edwards at a function held in 2001. This wouldn't be interesting to anyone unless you were watching the Vice-presidential debate on Tuesday when Cheney stated he had met Edwards for the first time that evening. This was supposed to be a slap in the face to Edwards who was allegedly absent from most senate meetings. So now I'm thinking that Cheney's fact checking and his memory are being questioned.

Did Cheney Forget to Fact Check?
So here's the story (or rumor according to some) of the day in case you just rolled out of bed after that darn vice-presidential debate went over 8 minutes and kept you up late. In response to remarks from Edwards on Halliburton's role in Iraq and the misdeeds of the company under Cheney's reign, the Vice-President got in this lick last night:
"They know that if you go, for example, to factcheck.com, an independent Web site sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania, you can get the specific details with respect to Halliburton."
There's just one little problem. The web site Cheney meant to say (I assume) is FactCheck.org. FactCheck.COM redirects you to GeorgeSoros.com. On that site lies another problem. There's a huge banner urging voters to get Bush out of office. Now I have made my mistakes in the past. For example, WhiteHouse.com has gotten several clicks out of ignorant users like me who thought the White House would take the time to reserve both the .com and the .gov domains. ::shaking head:: I can only assume that Mr. Cheney did the same thing. The difference here is that I'm not running for a re-election. I'll bet you he won't make that mistake again.
BAM!
::doing my impersonation of the Bush smirk over here::

Hearing AOL Radio Jazz KTWV The Wave
Back Just in Time
Okay, okay I've been gone for a while. I'm ashamed to admit it but my *life* got in the way. What can I say? I enjoy the idea of having shelter, transportation, and every once in a while a good meal. In other words, I need to pay the bills. There is no Mr. District Drifter and therefore a girls gotta take care of herself. That's another reason I will be tuning into the debate this evening (why not, the Apprentice came on last night anyway *wink*). No really, I will be glued to my television with my friends on speed dial. Who else am I going to talk to when Bush makes an off the wall comment and gives his famous smirk or as Kerry's response takes us into the commercial break (hey, are there commercials)? Anyway, I have just as much interest in what they have to say as the next gal. I am single, educated, and like many Americans want to know that my president will not only protect my homeland but make sure I have a job to go to everyday, ensure that my children (when they arrive) will be safe when they go to school, and that I won't be a struggling grandmother penny-pinching in my 60s when I retire. Is that too much to ask? I don't think so. These were never concerns five years ago. My heart never skipped a beat when a plane hovered over my house, I never had to buy duct tape from Home Depot, and I certainly never had to walk on eggshells at work in fear of layoffs.
Serenity Now!

Feeling Hopeful
Hearing Live feed of CNN's coverage of Kerry Rally
Kerry and Edwards - A Winning Ticket
The announcement came this morning at 8:30am. Kerry's camp announces Edwards will be his running mate as Vice President. I couldn't be more excited. This is a winning team. John Edwards possesses the background that defines what America is all about. He came from practically nothing and made his life into something. These candidates complement one another. There is no doubt about it.
This day will change everything as we approach November. I have never in my 26 years seen so many Americans wanting to vote. Young people ready to vote and exercise their right. During last week's BET Awards several artists urged young voters to get out their and make a difference as they gave their acceptance speech. To the Average Joe it seems silly but to young audiences who know who Lil John is but have no idea who Dick Cheney is, it's awareness. I only hope the excitement, vocal outreach, and eagerness for change won't wane before November.
Oh yeah, and it's Bush's birthday today.

Will You Read?
So there's this book by this man who used to live in this big white house and make huge decisions all day. Some say the book is already oversold, while some columnist have already stated publicly that they won't read. The 'Curious Georgette' in me is intrigued so yes I will be one of the expected millions to read. Before you post a nasty comment or email me -- think twice. I would read a book by any author who held a seat of that stature. I'd be the first in line to read Bush's memoirs post-presidency. I would love to read the contents of that (trust me that line is much funnier when you hear me say it).
On top of the events surrounding the book's release some of you lucky AOL members will be able to catch the answer to your questions straight from Clinton. He's penning responses to a few of them now. AOL throwing a live townhall event with the former president. For the full schedule of events on AOL, click here.
Despite all the extraordinary PR on Entertainment Tonight and a NYPost.com article, there's a lot of excitement and buzz. I didn't think that people still got excited over politicians -- both past and present -- unless they expired.
I guess I was wrong.

Will You Be There?

On Monday, June 14 you can expect to see a trail of Democrats in the DC area flocking to H20 located on the waterfront. Why, you ask? The DNC has just approved another fundraiser to support Kerry's campaign. I am extremely elated that the next big "something different" event came so soon following March's night out at Dream.
My only qualms with this is that they are focusing heavily on the younger voters again. I am a part of that demographic but there are only so many times I want to flock to a club to show my support. Give me a dinner, a performance, or even a lounge and I will be there (am I getting old or what?).
I think it's a great idea because I have many friends my age who complain but aren't even registered to vote (don't worry, I give them the riot act) but last I checked we young 'uns, as my grandfather would say, have no money. The event is $50 dollars and even I am a bit stumped this time. I just paid my mortgage and because I went ccccrazy last week and spent recklessly I can't even afford a thought -- that's how poor I am right now.
I am still debating on whether or not I will go. My contribution check may have to be slightly bigger next month to make up for not attending.
Maybe I'll do some cold calling. "Hi, I'm calling on behalf of the John Kerry for President campaign..."
LOL

Good bye, Gipper
This past weekend, America mourned the loss of former President Reagan. As a twenty-something I grew up with Reagan and remember moments in history such as the famous Berlin Wall speech, the attempted assassination and his wife Nancy in long gemmed gowns as they danced at gala after gala. He was a part of my history, my childhood. No matter if you disagreed with his politics or exclusivity of rich versus poor he was still our President.
Good bye, Ronald.
