Advertising
Now that DMC Office Services has been operating in cyberspace for a few years, I decided to venture into physical advertising and took out a few ads in the local yellow page directories.
Interestingly, I'm finding a distinction between people who use the Internet and people who browse the yellow pages for services. Of course, this is my opinion and observation but I really think there's something to it. The difference appears to be the type of work customers want performed and how long they will wait for a response.
Customers that contact me for office support services via the local yellow pages are generally looking for services relating to smaller jobs. These customers will also keep looking to the next ad if you happen not to be there to pick up the phone. They'll leave messages but they've definately moved on.
With Internet advertising, people appear to have a little more patience while awaiting a response. Most often, they'll await your response via E-mail or a phone call. These jobs have a tendency to be larger and ongoing.
I can't help to wonder why this is. Perhaps it's just the nature of people who use the Internet versus people who want a faster response via the telephone book. The Internet also gives you more space to sell your services to prospects where the phone book allows a few lines or a block of text at best.
If these trends continue as I suspect, I'll probably drop the phone directory advertising to save a few bucks and pursue advertising through another avenue.

First Impressions
So many people tell me they're interested in working for my company yet they forget that first impressions are lasting impressions.
For example, I receive requests that are written in incomplete thoughts or Internet-ese. If you're interested in making a lasting contact, it is so important to write in formal, understandable language. Forget all the abbreviations you use when sending an instant message or texting someone and don't talk about how life hasn't been good. Instead, get to the point and talk about what you have to offer. Including a resume is a good idea as well.
Even though the company isn't hiring at the moment, you can bet good resumes are kept on file.

Postcards
This is my first journal entry. I print postcards for clients' mailings. For a new, upcoming job, I decided to try some postcard stock purchased from various sources. I must say, the results were totally disappointing. If the cards weren't mangled from the postal equipment, the text was rubbed off and was unreadable. Certainly, it was a good idea to run a test using the new stock before printing clients' mailings. I'll stick with the postcards from the USPS.
