The Third Circle of Hell, according to Sumner
Sumner, my Boxer, gets lumps and bumps. He's cultivating a lovely skin tag on his chest at this very moment. To his dismay, we have them removed. Frequently. He's a pretty stoic guy (except for nail clipping - he howls like a school girl before the clipper even touches his nail), and he handles the actual bump removal quite well. It's what comes after that doesn't go so well.
The Head-Cone. Big time bummer. Sumner decides that he can't walk, sit, recline or breathe when he has it on. He stands on his bed, head dipping lower and lower, until the cone touches the floor. It's pitiful and absolutely hysterical.

As a dog trainer, I deal with Head Cone-esque bummers every so often, so you'll occasionally see a post that uses the Sumner Head-Cone Scale to determine the extent of the bummer. Allow me to demonstrate:
Choke Chains:

3 SHCs = very bad
Rawhide:

2 SHC = pretty bad
Grumpy Clients:
1 SHC = not great, but I can live with it
Are you wondering why Rawhide got 2 SHCs? Ask me - I'm happy to explain!
