Many of my new clients ask me what I think about TV dog trainer Cesar Millan, "The Dog Whisperer." I have a lot to say.
In this forum, I'll let the American Humane Association speak for me:

While I'm at it, syndicated columnist and pet expert Steve Dale nails it as well:

Got a new perspective on "Whispering" now?

If he's barking AT things, teach him a "hush" command; place a small, high-value treat near his nose when he's barking. He'll stop, because dogs can't bark and sniff at the same time. Say "Hush" right as he stops barking, wait a few seconds to maintain the quiet, then give him the treat. In time you'll be able to just say "hush" and he'll look at you as if to say "Ok, I stopped. Now where's my treat?!"
Good luck!
