Regular Season Week 6: Browns vs. Ravens Review
Ravens 16, Browns 3
Rushing Yards: CLE - 70, BAL - 150
Passing Yards: CLE - 116, BAL - 201
Total Yards: CLE - 186, BAL - 351
This loss was because of sloppy play all around. First of all, the Ravens played their best defense of the year. It looked like last year. But the O-line for the Browns did not give Trent Dilfer protection or time to throw the ball. Trent had pressure every time he dropped back to pass. The O-line had been good up to now, but yesterday, it just collapsed. On the other side, the Browns defense only got to Anthony Wright once. Almost every play, Wright had all the time in the world to pass. And a lot of his wide receivers, especially Todd Heap, were left wide open. I don't know when they're going to learn to put a man on every receiver. Finally, the Ravens were basically trying to give the game to the Browns. They had all of those late-game penalties and punts, but the Browns couldn't do anything. The offense was non-existent.
The Browns had penalties on three of Northcutt's punt returns. C'mon guys! You have to know that you can't block from the back, you can't put a hand in a guy's face, and you can't hold. We're going into week 7 and these guys still don't get the picture. If I was the special teams coach, I would definately work on that because no other team in the league have that many punt returns called back because of penalties.
It's hard to believe that the season's almost half over. The way it looks right now, the Browns will be drafting high again in next year's draft. If I were Phil Savage, I wouldn't go after offensive players in the draft because the building blocks for the Browns' offense are in place. We have Charlie Frye as our future quarterback. We have our next star, Braylon Edwards, and Kellen Winslow II (hopefully) coming back next year. If I was Savage, I would draft a defensive player or I would draft someone like Matt Leinart or Vince Young and trade him to the team that selects A.J. Hawk. He would be a great addition. The Browns have some good linebackers, like Andra Davis, Matt Stewart, and others. But I think moving Kenard Lang from defensive lineman to linebacker was a bad idea. They forced a veteran to give up the position he's played his whole career, lose 30 pounds, and made him adjust to a position that he's never played before. The Browns need another true linebacker and I think A.J. Hawk is the player they need.
Next Game: Sunday, October 23: vs. Detroit
