Best National Park?

Yellowstone

Wonders of Yellowstone: I just got back from a vacation during which we spent three days at Yellowstone National Park. Created in 1872, it is the oldest U.S. national park -- and, they like to claim, the first national park in the world. It is now my favorite national park. Yellowstone is amazing, with the highest concentration of geysers in the world, beautiful mountains, a huge, deep blue lake, lots of buffalo, pristine rivers, deep canyons, hot springs and more. In the geyser areas the ground seems to be boiling, with hot springs every couple of yards. It was other-worldly.

The scenery in Yellowstone is amazing and varied. It took us hours to get out of the park, because we stopped every 10 minutes or so to take another photo of an incredible view or a buffalo.

What is your favorite national park and why? Is it the last one you visited, or is there one gem that no other can surpass?

Yellowstone is an illusion.  It is a posterchild for mismanagement of complex systems.

If you think I am making this up, read this book: http://www.amazon.com/Playing-God-Yellowstone-Destruction-Americas/dp/0156720361

The best park I've seen is Isle Royale National park in Michigan, (okay, actually in Lake Superior, but a part of Michigan.)  It's especially good because it is so hard to get to, it's a 12mph ferry ride that takes FOREVER to get there, but there aren't any cars, and it's crawling with moose.  Varied, rugged terrain, just beautiful.

    Just thought I'd share.

The most beautiful National Park that I have ever seen is Cape Breton Highlands National Park located on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.  It should be named as one of the Wonders of the World, in my opinion.  The air and waters are pristine.  Just magnificant views of ocean(St. Lawrance Bay on the Western Shores and the Atlantic Ocean on the Eastern Shores.  Travel and Leisure Magazine has named Cape Breton Island as the fourth most beautiful Islands in the World, and the number one most beautiful Island in North America and Canada.   I couldn't agree more...
