Organic Dairy Rankings

Is Your Organic Milk From a Factory Farm? Organic food is becoming a big business and if you're like me you buy some organics, including milk and produce. But are all organic farms or dairies alike?

According to a study done by the Cornucopia Institute, organic dairy farms are not all alike. You might assume that a farm or company producing organic milk is a few rungs up the ethical ladder from so-called factory farms. Cornucopia says that's not the case; see their study, "Maintaining the Integrity of Organic Milk."  They find that some producers run factory farms, or buy milk from factory farms, and also have poor labor and environmental practices.

View their handy chart that ranks 68 dairy farms and organic milk and dairy products (on a cute scale from one to five cows). Horizon Milk (Dean Foods) rates only one cow.
