Arnold Sells His Hummers

Schwarzenegger and Hummer

U.K. Paper Reports the Nearly $1 Million Sale: Calif. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has sold his eight Hummers, the GM trucks that get 10 mpg, according to British newspaper The Mirror, which reported it on its Web site Sept. 22.

The eight Hummers were worth $947,000. Schwarzenegger sold them "to prove his commitment to helping the fight against global warning," according to The Mirror.

California announced Sept. 21 that it is suing six automakers -- General Motors, Toyota, Ford, Honda, Chrysler and Nissan -- over their vehicles' greenhouse gas emissions.

The Mirror says the lawsuit "alleges that fumes from cars made by the six firms account for 30 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions in the state."

No word on what Arnold is now driving, although as governor I guess he doesn't have to drive anywhere -- he must have a chauffeur.

Still, his gesture is important because he is such a well-known figure who is popular with Americans of many ages. He's setting a good example by getting rid of these gas guzzlers. Indeed, in many ways he's been a "green" governor, implementing a "Million Solar Roofs" Plan and also supporting a carbon-trading bill to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the state.

He seems to get what Al Gore has been saying about how protecting the environment and having a strong economy are not mutually exclusive.  "Cleantech is the next industry our state will be on the forefront of," Schwarzenneger said in a press release.

Can Arnold terminate global warming? Not by himself, but maybe he can push others to follow his lead and apply good government to the problem of global warming.

What do you think of Arnold ditching his Hummers?  If you own a gas guzzler are you planning to do the same?

If the governor was sincere, not about the Hummers, but instead, Global Warming, he would have destroyed the vehicles, which continue to roam the planet.

For your thoughts: You know, if we had a real Energy Policy, we could still keep and manufacture our (converted) Hummers.

I'm sorry golfn4free, mankind, for better or for worse, is solely responsible for the future state of our earth.   You better start thinking differently, for we are not a mere pimple.
