Let's Talk Local, Humanely-Raised Turkey

Some Last Minute Advice for Buying an Eco-Friendly Bird or Trying an Alternative: I received this in an e-mail from TheGreenGuide.com this week, "Looking for a Real Turkey?" The article describes their opinions on what the best kind of bird is for the sensitive, environmentalist Thanksgiving dinner. They recommend getting a humanely-raised turkey from a local source, if possible. Check out the links they provide. For you really last-minute people, you can order a kosher organic turkey on the Web from Diamond Organics (Nov. 21 is your last day to order).

The article also features links for tofu turkeys and un-turkeys. In addition, AOL CityGuide has an Alterna-Turkey Photo Gallery, showcasing some unique ways to cook a turkey and a tofurkey.

What do you eat for Thanksgiving dinner? Post your alternatives and recipes here.

Any animal used for meat tastes better if it had a healthy life, raised outside in the sun on green grass.  It might lead to a few losses to natural causes but overcrowded buildings have their losses too. I suggest hunting your own wild turkey if you have the inclination. You will really appreciate the meat on your table Thanksgiving day, and it does taste great.
