U.N. Report Will Add to the Momentum on Climate Change

Details of Draft Released:  This Friday, Feb. 2, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will release a report about the current state of knowledge about climate change. The report will show more evidence that human activity is contributing to climate change. The IPCC is composed of 2,500 scientists from 130 countries.

Reuters published details from the draft version of the report, which said, "Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as is now evident from increases in global average air and ocean temperatures, melting of snow and ice, and rising sea levels." Temperatures are expected to rise at least 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit (if carbon dioxide levels rise 40 percent) and sea levels rise by 11 inches by 2100. Apparently those predictions could be conservative -- "sugar coated" as one reporter termed it.

President Bush  acknowledged the challenge of climate change in his State of the Union address. Ten big business CEOs teamed with environmental groups to call for mandatory greenhouse gas emission caps last week.  The Democrats in Congress want to do something about climate change and half a dozen bills have been proposed.

When the new report comes out and the new evidence is revealed, that will just provide more momentum for the United States to act. I say it's about time. What do you think?

Just more BS.  Something for some people to grandstand about.  I will be glad when this band wagon passes and they get on something else.

In a world where all we care about is how rich we can get in the shortest amount of time  and business that  is structured around cut-throat tactics,do you really think enough of the worlds population will give a crap to actually step outside of their self involved bubble to do something ? Mankind is it's own worst enemy, overpopulating itself ,and using up the planets natural resources.Reguardless of how we try to put less crap into the air it will end up being overpopulation of this planet  that puts the last nail in our coffin. We need to look at the total BIG picture and wake up or face the music we created.Lets not have mankind end up being the greatest cancer to screw up this great planet.Do the math on population growth and figure out how much resources are used per added person and get back to me  ok . Have a nice day ! :-) The best way to fight global warming ? ----use a condom lol

Global warming should have been a topic of discussion years ago. People have been" burying their heads in the sand" for a long time. I have even heard politicans lately making joking remarks about Al Gore's report. Just like so many other situations faced in this country, will it be a case of "too little, too late?" Big industrials need to be held accountable instead of getting a free pass for greasing a politican's hand. The joke that is EPA needs to do more with the cars they pass instead of worrying about the $19.50 they are going to collect. This has not happened over night nor will it change with putting on a bandage when we are surely in need of major surgury. As we are facing huge problems with health care  insurances and other life altering situations here in the United States, we need people who are truely concerned about making changes in this country and not worrying about what THEY are going to get out of it personally.
