Solar Panels Coming to the Vatican

Pope Is In Touch With Alternative Power:  God is still the main spiritual power in Rome and faith may be the ultimate renewable resource, but Pope Benedict XVI sent an important message to the world last week by announcing that some Vatican buildings will start using solar energy.

The Associated Press reported that "The roof of the Paul VI auditorium will be redone next year, with its cement panels replaced with photovoltaic cells to convert sunlight into electricity." The cells will produce enough electricity to illuminate, heat or cool the building.

AP also noted that "Last summer, Benedict called on Christians to unite to take "care of creation without squandering its resources and sharing them in a convivial manner." He said lifestyle choices were damaging the environment and making "the lives of poor people on Earth especially unbearable."

I applaud Pope Benedict for going solar. Maybe he can influence other world leaders. How do solar panels on the White House roof sound?

I also read about the Pope, changing to solar paneling, what I don' understand why all of a sudden; why are we just hearing about this very important issue now?? I have been concerned about energy & saving all I could for well over 20 yrs. They used to talk openly about smog& now it seems when they do the weather on the News; we hear nothing about it?? I'd really like to know, what's up with that. I see so much waste, instead of recycling. We hear bit's & pieces, it should be a law, I do understand the excuses we would hear, We can't afford to have anyone entity to over-see a project of that size.  Stephanie from Ca.
