Yeah, that's right it's here....your saying "what's here???" BASKETBALL SEASON! YEAH BABY! Last night our Ladies and Men (Mitchell) started try-outs. From what I saw, we might have a pretty decent team this season. I'm really excited about this season. I can't play, but, Coach asked me to keep her books and so that's what I'm doing this season. I just don't know if I'll be able to keep my mind in the game....I get really excited during a game. But, anyway, as soon as I get the rosters for all 4 teams (JV Girls, JV Boys, Varsity Girls, and Varsity Boys) I'll post it on here.

You can expect a lot of basketball coverage this season....this is my favorite time of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Mitchell/Madison game was cancelled on Friday due to excessive rain. The game was rescheduled for Monday night. The JV game was played on Thursday. The Varisty game was a good one. Mitchell once again was ready to record the "W". We went in scored in the first few minutes. Right before the first half was over we had score of 20-0. First time all season, I think. Anyways, the game was played good by both teams. I'm looking on www.ihigh.com to see what the final score ended up being...but they have it as Mitchell 42-Madison 41...and I know for sure it wasn't that close. We won by like 42-17 or something. I'll try to find out the exact score as soon as I can.

The JV game...I don't really know about! I didn't go to the game b/c I was work, again. I don't even know what the final score ended up as.

Avery took on Mtn. Heritage last night, but of the rain. All I know about that game is: the final score was: Avery 55-Mtn. Heritage-6.....once again, the Cougars are still scoreless this season. Just think of how disappointing that woud be.....ya know??

The Hendersonville Bearcats had the "open" week this week. They will take on Polk County on November 3rd.

Pisgah County High School hosted the Owen Warhorses. PCSH ended up with the loss in this game. The final there was: PCSH 14-Owen 18.

Mitchell will travel to Avery County on November 3rd to take on the Avery Vikings. Game time: 7:30pm....just a peice of advice if you plan on attending the game: bundle up!!!!!....drag out the heavey coats, gloves, etc. It's going to be a really cold night in Avery County.

As already said: Hendersonville will take on Polk County Friday night.

The Madison County Patriots will travel to Yancey County to take on the Mtn. Heritage Cougars....I hate to say it Cougar fans....but, this game is already won by Madison. I mean, you have a team who is winless this season, still. And has only scored about 54 pts all season long. And it's the last regular season game....

Owen has the "open" week. Which means, they'll be ready to start the playoffs!!!!

I'm getting really excited about playoffs. But, the sad thing is: there's only about 3 team in the WHC that have a chance of making it past the 2nd round....those teams are: Owen, Madison, and Polk, maybe Hendersonville...I don't know. Mithcell won't make it past the 2nd....IF we make THAT far. Avery is the same way. Mtn. Heritage can not play in the playoffs. The reason that Mitchell and Avery won't make it past the 2nd round is b/c we always end up playing some team off from here...the really good teams. And Mitchell or Avery are not good enough. Just those guy off from here know how to play ball.

Might I remind you that is week is the week of regular season for NCHS Football.

Let me first start off my saying I'm sorry for not getting this on here before now. But, I've been really busy...Thrusday, school and the JV Game. Friday, school and the Varsity Game. Saturday....Apple Butter makin' and work from 3-11:30. And Sunday, I was just too lazy to do anything. Monday I was at my Mamaw's.

Ok, on with the post. Within the next 3 weeks Mitchell, Mtn. Heritage, Madison and Avery High Schools are all going through what we call: rival week! Here's how that works: Last week Mitchell took on Mtn. Heritage and Avery took on Madison. This week Mitchell travels to Madison and Avery takes on Mtn. Heritage. Week after next (Friday November 3rd, last regular season game) Mitchell travels to Avery and Mtn. Heritage takes on Madison.

As for this week: it was crazy around the 4 counties. I mean, we are all small counties...everybody knows everybody.

Let me start with Thursday night at Mtn. Heritage where they hosted Mitchell...Mitchell started off on the right note. First two minutes of the game...TD! We did let the Cougars score 8 pts the whole game. But, the excitment didn't come until the very last 2 mintues of the game. I mean, I'm not one to throw off on ref's but...there were some calls that were made that shouldn't have been made. For example: One of our guys fumbled the ball...we recovered...the ref's say the it's the Cougars ball. I mean it was plain as day. But, then there were some calls that should have been, but weren't. One of our guys got mad at one of the Cougars' and liked stepped all over him. And the ref standing not 2 yards away from them!! So, the final in the JV game ended up being....Mitchell: 22 Mtn. Heritage:8....Great game by both teams.

Friday night's game: We all knew that Mitchell had a huge advantage over the Cougars. I mean they haven't won not one game all season long. So, me personally was looking for an upset. I mean, when your facing a team that hasn't won a single game yet, it's hard not get the big head...ya know? Well, anyway, the game was played great on both ends...I thought. Just Mtn. Heritage needs to step it up a bit. Just about every other play Mitchell had the ball. And it seemed that every time we got the ball, we scored. One play that stands out is #26 Bomar's INT catch and then runs it 98 yards for the TD in the last minute. Pretty impressive. Needless to say Mitchell recorded the "W" with 56-7 or 8 something like that.

***I'll try not to make next week's post so long and so late***

When I woke up this morning. I heard someone in my household say "Greg Paulus may be out for the season"...I thought this person was just telling me this. But, no they weren't...it's true.

According to http://goduke.com/ Greg Paulus could be out for the season after suffering a left foot injury on Saturday, Oct. 14, in the team’s second official practice of the year. Paulus, one of three Duke team captains, reaggravated a previous injury in his left foot in the closing moments of practice.

Paulus was reevaluated by Duke medical personnel on Monday at the Duke University Medical Center. He is expected to undergo a treatment plan that will not require surgery. No timetable has been set for his return and he is expected to make a full recovery through rehabilitation.

NC Sports Report says: The worst possible news for the Duke Blue Devils came today, as sophomore PG Greg Paulus was diagnosed with a fractured fifth metatarsal. ESPN is reporting that the injury may require surgery.

The fifth metaltarsal is the long bone that runs from the base of your little toe, towards the ankle.

If Paulus' injury does require surgery, and requires him to miss the entire season, Duke would likely suffer drastically. The already young team is looking for leadership, even Coach K says so, and now their starting man at the point is gone. Hopefully, for Duke, DeMarcus Nelson can step up for the Blue Devils.

Thanks to http://goduke.com/ and http://journals.aol.com/ncsportsreport/blog/ for the reliable information.

I'll keep you posted, as long as I'm being kept up-to-date.

Get Well Soon Greg!

Well, as you know by the heading...I'm back. After about a month and 1/2 of waiting. Anyway, our football here at Mitchell has had it's ups and downs, as to be expected. We lost to Polk (37-0), Hendersonville (14-28), But, we did beat Owen (24-7)...for the first time since 1996!!! Varsity is now...1-2 in the Conference. Our JV Team is dong better in the conference play than Varsity. They are 2-1. The lost to Owen. But recorded the "W" against Polk and Hendersonville. GO MOUNTAINEERS.

Mountain Heritage is still winless this season...both JV and Varsity.

Mitchell takes on Mtn. Heritage....major rival game. I hope to have some pics for this game. I go to Mitchell, of course. And I have several cousins and friends who attend Mtn. Heritage. So, we all are pumped for this game.

***I don't know if I'll get to post on a daily basis or not. With work and school...I'm staying kinda busy. But, I'll to post atleast every other day.***

Well, I thought for sure I'd have my laptop back now. I call Best Buy on Friday evening. And the Geeks (as in the Geek Squad) tell me that the dang is in CA at the service department for Best Buy. The tech. has it..just don't know what in the dang world he's doing to it. We still have no clue when I'll get it back. That's where everything stands at this moment.

What I do know is: Mitchell lost 49-0 against Pisgah...we had 5 starters out. We had a player from the JV team who was supposed to play but, didn't get to b/c of a knee injury he recieved during Thursday night's game.

Mtn. Heritage lost again as well...they played Ewrin...final score was 62-6 or something like that.

Maybe I can get my computer back and give y'all some more updates later. That's I've got now anyway. Feel free to leave some comments....

Anyway, in first 2-3 minutes the Mountaineers scored 2!! We did end up scoreing a TD and an extra point!!...shocker...both TD and extra point! And then on the next drive we scored again!! AND..got the extra point!!! WOO HOO..we're on a roll..lol. Anyway, we did let E. Rutherford score in the 3rd...no much action until late in the 4th. Mitchell was tired and wore out. We ended up letting East score, again. they got the TD..bringing the score of 21-20. With about 10 seconds left in the 4th E. Rutherford had a chance to score a field goal, which would put them ontop. But, the Mitchell line rushed, oncemore. Needless to say: the field goal was no good. Giving you the final score of 21-20...Mitchell will travel to Pisgah this Friday.***

Courtesy: Duke Sports Information

DURHAM, N.C. - Five months after its season was canceled, the Duke men's lacrosse team returned to practice Monday. The Blue Devils opened a five-week fall training camp under new coach John Danowski, the first time the team had practiced on campus since March.

The Duke lacrosse case touched off a nationwide debate about sports, race and class. But for all the commotion, the players appeared so at ease Monday the workout seemed almost routine. The only sign it wasn't was the dozen or so reporters watching from the sideline, a rare sight for a non-revenue program that competes in the shadow of Mike Krzyzewski's basketball team.

"I haven't played lacrosse with those guys in six or seven months," said Matt Danowski, Duke's All-American attackman and the son of the new coach. "You can see there's a lot of excitement."

The school suspended the highly ranked team - which had appeared in the NCAA championship game in 2005 - and eventually canceled the rest of the season. After an internal investigation, the school reinstated the program in June.

The following month, Duke hired John Danowski from Hofstra to coach the Blue Devils. He leads a team in which all the players could be potential witnesses in a trial that is not expected to begin before spring 2007.

"I wasn't here last year," Danowski said. "And I don't know these young men yet. I guess it's in the back of your mind. It's still something where you move forward. I can't relive the past. I can't rewind the clock and I wasn't here. This is what I know now, being with them for two meetings and one practice."

The team opens preseason practice in January and plays its first game in late February. Danowski said he hopes to have the schedule completed by Friday.

***I'm not really into Lacrosse, but I'm pleased to hear the LAX team is back. Hopefully they'll have a good season this year.I personally think all the negativethings that have been said about the Duke community that, it will motivate all teams to better this season...maybe so, who knows?***
