Hearing TV Eye -- Iggy and the Stooges
Creamy, Chunky, Extra Funky
You know how Homer Simpson gets whenever he thinks about beer? That's totally my reaction to peanut butter. I love the stuff. If they ever make a peanut butter toothpaste, I'm buying a couple cases of it and stashing it in the basement before the product gets recalled. I'd panhandle for change to buy 40s of peanut butter mouthwash if that ever hit the streets.
This photo set (thanks, BoingBoing!) shows a couple of toddlers who love peanut butter even more than I do. In their mother's words,
"... big sister figured out how to open the jar and pile the entire contents onto the little one's head. it was very hard to convince them that they should never do this again when i was laughing and crying and taking a million pictures."
The pictures are sweet and gross all at once. Kind of like peanut butter. They remind me of the legendary Iggy Pop's early stage antics, back when he was just a contender for the Coolest Guy on Earth belt. When he wasn't cutting himself with bits of broken glass onstage, Iggy would often open up a jar of peanut butter and smear it all over himself and anything else within his reach.
Check out this live clip from 1970.
Right near the end, Igg surfs the crowd and breaks out the Jif in a truly inspired moment. The best part is the moonlighting sportscaster's proclamation: "It's PEANUT butter!"
Come to think of it, who WAS the coolest guy in the world in 1970? Coulda been Iggy.

I love peanut butter too, in my childhood, I would eat pb&j and fritos with Pepsi of course. It is still a comfort meal for me now and I am in my early 30's. Tawnya
