CMJ Day 1:  Ra Ra Riot's Midnight Show at Pianos

Ra Ra Riot is a 6 piece band from Syracuse that play upbeat indie pop backed by classical instruments (violin and cello).  In a short amount of time, the band has already garnered a lot of attention and has even drawn comparisons to Arcade Fire.

It was Halloween and the first day of CMJ, and even though they were playing a midnight show at Pianos, the venue was still packed.   And all the bars at the Lower East Side seemed to have crowds spilling out in the street.  When Ra Ra Riot actually started playing, it was already 1 AM.  Their live show was awesome and very energetic, the strings melded really well with the rest of the instrumentals.  All in all their music was quite polished, and the band has been together for less than a year.

The band is also playing a number of other shows during the week:

11/01    Another early morning show tonight at Pianos.

11/02    Hiro Ballroom

11/03    Studio B at Brooklyn

11/04    Sin-E  (afternoon show)

11/04   Club Midway
