CMJ Day 2:  Cansei de ser Sexy's afternoon show at Pianos!

CSS, which stands for Cansei de ser Sexy, is an electro-pop/dance band from Brazil that's starting to get a lot of buzz here.  They've already opened for Ladytron at Webster Hall and will be opening for the Shins' sold out show at Bowery Ballroom tomorrow.  I'll be honest and say that I really didn't think much of them at first, but when I saw their "Let's Make Love" video, I could not get that song out of my head for weeks!  When I read that their live shows were crazy, I was very much stoked about seeing them at Pianos (for FREE no less, thanks BV!).

I was able to get out of work early and drive into the city.  I got there at about 3:20 and was able to catch Land of Talk's last song.  They sounded great, and I plan to see them Friday at The Mercury Lounge.  Pianos was pretty busy but not "sold out", and people could come and go in between bands.  I saw Thunderbirds are Now! and will put up a review soon.

When CSS started playing the venue was packed, and I was near the front.  I knew the show was gonna be crazy, but I was even surprised at the amount of energy Lovefoxxx (the lead singer) had!  She danced frenetically from song to song, and even dove into the crowd from the stage by the thirdsong and danced in the audience a number of times with different people.  Lovefoxxx didn't even seem to get tired at all, and she really worked the crowd and got everyone into it for their entire set.

This was only the second day and so far it's been great!  When CSS finished their set at about 5:30, I even had enough time to go back to NJ to be at my wife's radio show at 7 PM!  I'll probably take it easy Thursday, but have a glut of bands to check out Friday night!

Ok, this is what got me hooked!  Here's their music video:  "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above"
