Feeling Happy
Close, but a Win
Still the Beast!!
The Atlanta Hawks were on their first three-game winning streak since January of 2004. Credit Antawn Jamison for breaking the miserable Hawks' streak when it looked like that streak would extend to four. Without him Washington would be looking back at yesterday's loss to one of the worst teams in the League. Excellent job from Antawn: twenty-seven points and fiften rebounds. Still the Beast.
Nice job from Gilbert Arenas too. Good assists and twenty-two points. No insane ballhogging or wild shooting. Nice performance from Caron Butler as well--bet Los Angeles wishes desperately they'd never traded him for poor incompetent Kwame.
Game note: Though they had a monster lead at halftime, Washington nearly blew it in the third quarter, allowing the Hawks to get back in the game. Scary stuff. Somebody needs to tell Eddie Jordan that time outs and the bench can help when the opposing team pushes hard. The Wizards finally pushed back even harder, though, during the fourth quarter--and won with ease. That final period is how it should go: Washington playing good team ball.
Final score: 98-85, Washington.
That's five of the last six home games as wins. Excellent--nice to see the Wizards protecting the MCI Center.
Sidelines: Next game is at home versus the Orlando Magic. Steve Francis is playing well, and so is Dwight Howard, but the Magic are just hopeless. Should be a good win.
Two more rebounds, and Antawn Jamison will hit the 4000 mark.
More important, one more win and the Wizards will be back to .500 ball. "It's going to happen one of these days," Arenas said of the elusive mark Jamison has declared as the Wizards' goal before the All-Star break. "That's how I look at it. Every time we get close, something else happens. We just have to keep fighting."
Seven of the next eight games are at home. This is a big opportunity to not only hit .500 but make a big move up the Eastern Conference ladder.
