This article will mainly deal with the theory of “Ghost” orbs. The majority of orbs are due to dust, pollen, bugs, leaf particles (mostly in the fall), moisture, smoke, and all manner of environmental particulates that fill the air both inside and out. The orbs one captures on camera look almost indistinguishable from those thought to be genuine ghost orbs.

To understand how all sorts of orbs can easily be confused with probable ghost orbs please read our article, “Ghost Photography 101” and carry out the photographic experiments outlined within it. This is the best way of familiarizing yourself with all sorts of orbs and will also help you on your way to becoming your own photo analyst. To impress on the reader the most important point, I must say that the best way to prevent the appearance of environmental orbs is to try to keep the environment as “clear” as it can be. Think of it as compared to a crime scene. You don’t want all sorts of factors to “contaminate” the scene. Outdoors, it is almost impossible, but you can take photographs away from smoldering campfires, not smoking, holding one’s breath when taking a photo in the cold weather, standing still for approximately aminute after walking through a dusty or gravel road or a field or dry leaves waiting for the particles to settle, and avoiding outdoor ghost hunting during the pollen season. Check pollen reports on ghost sites; avoid windy weather photos, and very humid, misty, foggy or rainy nights. Indoors, be sure to shut off the air-conditioning, heat, fans, ceiling fans, and stop people and pets from running through the rooms during photographs. Shine a large flashlight and look at the side of the beam of light. Notice how many particles are in the air.

Ghost orbs are theorized to be the energy form of a person’s “life-force” after they have passed over. These energy forms travel in a sphere for several reasons. It is the easiest way for them to move around. I had read that according to the laws of physics that ”energy being transferred assumes the natural shape of a sphere”. Orbs seem to use the least amount of energy from the environment to appear. You may think of an orb as a type of cell with a casing and the protons inside the cell causes the round shape by exerting equal pressure on the cell wall from the inside. It almost seems as though we return to a type of cell as we started from a cell.

Not only environmental particles and ghosts appear as orbs but a group of researchers had filmed a leaking microwave oven as it was on and captured orbs leaving through the leaks in the microwave. This proves it is energy. Anything that is or has energy never dies but dissipates or comes together and transforms into something else.

Ghost orbs are thought to release into a mist (as some would call it “ectoplasm”) as it collects increased energy in the environment in order to manifest in a better way to us. At full manifestation, an apparition may be seen shortly and very difficult to catch in a photograph. Sometimes the energy collected from the environment is used by entities to speak, to move objects, or even to touch. It is easier to be able to capture anomalies on camera or audio recorders during periods of high electrical energy in the air, as in severe electrical storms, strong emotional energy, strong geomagnetic forces on the land, during full moons, and in cold weather when the air is dryer and there is more static electricity in the air.

How can one be sure they have captured a true ghost orb? There is no way it can be proven. No one can say from just looking at aphoto of an orb if it indeed a ghost. Some say that genuine orbs have a nucleus (substance within), some dispute this and say the real ones are transparent and have no nuclei. Some say they are dense, some say they have bright outer rings, others don’t. If there are loads of orbs in your photograph, most likely they are environmental, however there may be a real one in there, but who can tell for sure.

We think that through our experience and from studying from many sources that the genuine ones tend to be more dense and bright, are usually alone or with only a few others in a photo, have bright outer rings, that when enlarged look as though there are solar flares projecting outward (dust does not do this, nor does pollen and other environmental factors. Dust particles tend to be dense but fuzzy and without definition inside or around the edges. If you video-tape orbs, be sure not to use the halogen light as this can show many strange looking anomalies but they are usually dust particles lit up from the light (just sit on the side of the camera and look into the side of the light beam and say “dust” whenever a big piece floats by, then re-examine your video and you will see what you saw on the side of the beam. Be sure your video has night-vision. Genuine orbs will make very strange turns, at sharp angles and not like flight patterns of bugs or passing dust particles. Some have even taken direction, as in one investigation we did in another group we belonged to, when at one very haunted place, we told the shooting orbs, moving from doorway to doorway, rapidly, to dance in circles…within seconds they did just that, whirling, round and round on the ground! Some people have even captured orbs that they told to go into someone’s hand. I have seen this twice when I was watching in back of someone’s video camera; an orb flew into someone’s hand. They felt a burning in their hand and it made an 180-degree turn back to where it came from.

Orb photographs that are also backed up by high spikes in EMF readings, rapid drops in temperature, and/or EVP’s are much more likely to be genuine. This is as close as most of the ghost investigation community can come to as far as classifying an orb as genuine or not. It comes down to all these factors and educated guesses. We all are going forward with different theories in the community or researchers as to why orbs have different colors, why some orbs are denser than others, and how one entity or orb can breakinto many other orbs from a singular orb. One group is using fluorescence in trying to figure out why orbs have colors; others are working with the field of protons in the composition of orbs. We go forward in collecting and documenting as much as we can in order to research the fascinating realm of the unknown. On one of Jenny Cockell’s past death experiences:

“I found myself floating inside something like a soap bubble; above, below me and all around me were other bubbles that I knew to be people. I was bodiless, and this didn’t matter at all; there was no need for a body. The other bubbles seemed to have the peaceful energies of other people; also without bodies, yet seemingly complete, and I felt a total peaceful empathy with them.

The sensation was of being almost like a single cell within a whole constellation of cells, yet also of being far too much of an individual entity to be contained in one unit so small. Every bubble glowed brightly with an energy that I took to be the basic life force that is ourselves, and they pulsated at rhythms which varied from a slow heart-rate beat to a steady vibration.

There was a great deal of background light all around as though the whole life energy was expressed as light. It was difficult to see beyond it-it seemed to be reflected a little like the strands like the reflection of headlights in a fog. Some of it took the form of energy bands, mainly white through to blue in color. But for their strange angles they could have looked like rivers. The overall feeling was that of a white light energy…time had no meaning…There was no demarcation between day and night. Nor was there a sense of boredom. This is quite difficult, I find, for people to understand. This state of being is so utterly different from physical life that it is hard to put it into words, but without bodies there is no need for activities and diversions. It is enough just to be. Yet, although apparently inactive, we seemed to end up as more than we were when we started.

The bubble energies that were other people seemed to feel close all around me…I had only the sensation of being surrounded …by what I successfully describe as love. There was a wonderful sense of being incorporated within some much larger dimension of existence.”

These seem to be the energies of people that have not been confined to the earth realm as ghosts are thought to be but it makes sense that the form they take is as it is described above. The author of this book is of good reputation and her most documented past life has been historically accurate. She has even met and still meets with the elderly children of her most recent past life. Although we are a scientific group and will not be discussing reincarnation here, when I read this book, I thought that the above descriptions were so similar to orbs that it would be a fascinating excerpt for all to read. I wrote it here to add to the orb theory and not as a view of reincarnation. I will add another excerpt from her book about bubble energies and another reference to them (in another book) within her writings. It is up to the reader to accept, dismiss, or simply enjoy the book excerpts.

“After death, many people continue to see spiritual energies in human form…When I was surrounded by the bubble energies, I was aware that they were people, and although they were non-physical they nevertheless seemed to have friendly expressions. I still find it hard to describe them without using words like ‘face’, ‘expression’ and ‘people’ even though once beyond the tunnel, I cannot remember seeing physical shape other than the simple, almost cellular energy bubble.

It was not until I read Transformed by the Light by Dr. Melvin Morse and Paul Perry that I discovered a description that was similar to my own experience of energy-bubbles. In this serious study of NDE’s, the case study of ‘Patient 44” recounts that she remembered having no body and being contained within ‘some kind of essence’ similar to the gelatin capsule used to contain medicines. The book also contains descriptions by others of being ‘a ball of light’ or of rolling into a ball when passing through the tunnel.”
