Fundamentalism & Freedom

"The Adventist Way of Life" has been accused by some as being
an "extreme Christian Fundamentalist" view of Seventh Day Adventism.
First off, being the founder of this online ministry, I feel the
important need to respond to this accusation.

As Christian Seventh Day Adventists we believe in the right and
privilege of Freedom of Religion. The Adventist church publishes a
magazine completely dedicated to expressing religious freedom
called, "Liberty" magazine.

"The Adventist Way of Life" online ministry also upholds this
precious right. Having said that, "The Adventist Way of Life" also
holds to the 28 Fundamentals of the Official Seventh Day Adventist
Church. In this sense we are "fundamentalists".

This does not mean that we do not allow for diversity within
Christian Adventist understanding, because we do! There are what is
called "Historical Adventists", "Progressive Adventists",
and "Liberal Adventists". Diversity is healthy!

Here at "The Adventist Way of Life" we have coined ourselves
as, "Christian Adventists", or "Adventist Christians". This means we
do not deviate at all from the 28 fundamentals of the Adventist
Church and hold to a tight Adventist understanding. Upholding many
historical views and being theologically conservative. Politically
this ministry holds no position!

Typically religious fundamentalism has tried to control the political
arena. When we look at the Evangelical christians we see that they
have an extreme political agenda. People who are now no longer with
us such as Jerry Falwell and Dr. James Kennedy tried working their
way into swaying the politics of this world. Pat Robertson still
tries.

Just because "The Adventist Way of Life" holds to an absolute moral
reality we call the Ten Commandments this does not mean that we
believe that all of them should be politcally enforced. God forbid!

"The Adventist Way of Life" helps Christians and non-christians
understand that there has been a breakdown of true Christian
morality. Who cannot help but notice the growing social
permissiveness of sin? Are we "fanatics" if we as Adventist
Christians speak out against the moral collapse of this nation? NO!

Look at the exploitation of Third World countries by our own
governement. Look at the "money wins" campaigning of politicians.
Yes, we as Adventist Christians will try and point people to Jesus
Christ.

"The Adventist Way of Life" online ministry does not seek to delve
into politics and enforce our religious beliefs on everyone. God
forbid! We strongly believe in and support people who believe in
Religious Liberty! And we always will!

We are not "extreme right-wing fundamentalists"! Fundamentalists
fight amongst themselves over "who has the right way". Here at "The
Adventist Way of Life" online ministry I do hold to strong personal
religious convictions. And it is true that I speak out against other
religious & political groups that I think are in error. Jesus did
also. What Jesus did not do is start a war. He did not try and start
a "holy jihad" and neither does this ministry, though some have tried
to make this claim.

Extreme fundamentalists have the mind-set of fanaticism. They believe
that only their group will gain salvation through their understanding
of God. While it is true that "The Adventist Way of Life" ministry
believes that it expresses the true Christian perspective and that it
upholds the true gospel of Jesus Christ this does not mean that the
ministry, as a whole, believes that only Adventist Christians
will "be saved". Or that "republicans" are better than "democrats".

This ministry is always ready to learn and to grow! True Adventist
Christians want to be bridge-builders and peacemakers, even if we
disagree. May Jesus Christ help us in our efforts. Amen
