Have you escaped?
“For if they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therin, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.” [2 Peter 2:20]
So many of us may remember when we first accepted Christ as our Saviour. We were excited. We read our Bible’s everyday with the intent of wanting to learn something new. We were tithe payers, choir singers, ushers, perhaps we were Sabbath School teachers. But what ever position we were in we were excited!
We seemed to be more aware of the evil in the world. We may have gone through the process of getting rid of stuff we owned due to it’s evil content or it’s “deceptive stench”. We may have been more careful of what we watched on TV and what we read and listened to as far as radio and music were concerned.
We had indeed “escaped the pollutions of the world”. But then something happened. We slowly stopped attending church. We began to listen to the old music again, dress like the world again. Walk, talk, and eat like the world again. We even noticed that this time around we went further “out on the limb”. We got more daring. We decided that, “it’s time to truly taste the world!”
“For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.” [2 Peter 2:21] We brought more shame on us having known the Truth at one time and blatantly turning from it. We even more importantly brought shame to God.
“But it happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.” [2 Peter 2:22]
Oh what a terrible condition to find ourselves in! Dear brother and sister, where are you as you read this? Look around…see your environment. Take heed to the Word of the Lord this very moment!
The Lord says to us; “But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?” [Ezekiel 18:21-23]
