Walking with Jesus

We have Jesus! What more could we need? “The Father loves us, not because of the great propitiation, but He provided the propitiation because He loves us.” -Ellen White [from SC] Through Christ Jesus we have forgiveness of sins. Through Jesus Christ we have the gift of everlasting life.

How can we as law breakers, not of mans laws but of God’s, come to be saved and loved by Him?

“It is impossible for us, of ourselves, to escape from the pit of sin in which we are sunken. Our hearts are evil, and we cannot change them. “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.” “The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” Job 14:4; Romans 8:7. Education, culture, the exercise of the will, human effort, all have their proper sphere, but here they are powerless. They may produce an outward correctness of behavior, but they cannot change the heart; they cannot purify the springs of life. There must be a power working from within, a new life from above, before men can be changed from sin to holiness. That power is Christ. His grace alone can quicken the lifeless faculties of the soul, and attract it to God, to holiness. ” -Ellen White [from SC]

We see that only by our surrender to the Holy Spirit’s call can we have true salvation. Surrender, the first act of obedience. “And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.” -Acts 5:32

We cannot atone for our own sins. We need the Saviour! We need Jesus!

“In like manner you are a sinner. You cannot atone for your past sins; you cannot change your heart and make yourself holy. But God promises to do all this for you through Christ. You believe that promise. You confess your sins and give yourself to God. You will to serve Him. Just as surely as you do this, God will fulfill His word to you. If you believe the promise,–believe that you are forgiven and cleansed,–God supplies the fact; you are made whole, just as Christ gave the paralytic power to walk when the man believed that he was healed. It is so if you believe it. ” -Ellen White [from SC]

“Do not wait to feel that you are made whole, but say, “I believe it; it is so, not because I feel it, but because God has promised.” -Ellen White [from SC]

We need not worry or get caught up in our emotions. The promises of God are what we trust. We need not go anywhere but His word to find Truth. We trust God and believe that He says what He means and means what He says. Period!

When we walk with Jesus He will bring us to Christian maturity. We also need not trust in our own works to save us. Let us rely on His way.

“There are two errors against which the children of God–particularly those who have just come to trust in His grace–especially need to guard. The first, already dwelt upon, is that of looking to their own works, trusting to anything they can do, to bring themselves into harmony with God. He who is trying to become holy by his own works in keeping the law, is attempting an impossibility. All that man can do without Christ is polluted with selfishness and sin. It is the grace of Christ alone, through faith, that can make us holy. ” -Ellen White [from SC]

“The opposite and no less dangerous error is that belief in Christ releases men from keeping the law of God; that since by faith alone we become partakers of the grace of Christ, our works have nothing to do with our redemption.” -Ellen White [from SC]

When we sin [break God's holy Law] we are not to despair. “There are those who have known the pardoning love of Christ and who really desire to be children of God, yet they realize that their character is imperfect, their life faulty, and they are ready to doubt whether their hearts have been renewed by the Holy Spirit. To such I would say, Do not draw back in despair. We shall often have to bow down and weep at the feet of Jesus because of our shortcomings and mistakes, but we are not to be discouraged. Even if we are overcome by the enemy, we are not cast off, not forsaken and rejected of God. No; Christ is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Said the beloved John, “These things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” 1 John 2:1.” -Ellen White [from SC]

Indeed, let us walk with Jesus everyday!
