Feeling Chillin'
Hearing Radio@AOL - 1-Hit Wonders Station AOL Fun Stuff!
Hmm... Radio @ AOL is playing the Terry Jacks 1-Hit Wonder "Seasons in the Sun" - the song of a suicide in the springtime was actually a rather funny song in its original version by the Kingston Trio. Ah, well... I tend to file his version along with Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again Naturally" in my teen angst file cabinet of my mind.
Today, I'd like to delve into a few of the fun things you can find on AOL, some of which you may never have tried or even knew existed! :-)
Did you know that you do NOT need Broadband to enjoy Radio @ AOL? Nope. I have ancient ol' 56K dial-up myself. I sometimes will get a drop out when opening a web page, but it's basically uninterrupted music. I often have it on as I write as I can control the kind of music I listen to with its various stations for every musical interest you may have! If you haven't experimented with it, give it a try... so many great stations ranging from old to new to classical to all kinds of rock to showtunes and more. Kewl.
Then check out Keyword: DISCOVER AOL or Discover AOL: Discover AOL - a plethora of info there. A real plethora, I tell you!
Of course, DISCOVER AOL stole a lot of what I want to share, but I'm gonna touch on a few things anyway! Nyah. [Heh... now the AOL radio is playing Right Said Fred's 'I'm Too Sexy' - "I'm too sexy for your party, too sexy for your party, no way I'm disco dancing!"]
Did you know you can change the standard AOL greetings such as the Welcome, You've Got Mail and Goodbye to celebrity voices? Yup, you can! On this name, I'm using a mix, but each celebrity available has a full greetings set. I have David Letterman for my Welcome - "Welcome! Hold onto your wigs and keys!" Then, for e-mail, I have Hannibal Lechter's evil voice - "Hey, you've got mail. Goody, goody." And, for my Goodbye - it's Donald Trump - "Yer fired!" You too can choose to personalize your AOL Greetings at Keyword: CELEBRITY VOICES. By visiting AOL Celebrity: Celebrity Sounds Archive you can see all the voices available. Mix and match; pick and choose. Goody, goody.
The picture accompanying this is of Lincoln Center in NYC where the huge AOL 8.0 Launch Party took place a few years back. Giant inflatable AOL Icons took over the plaza and fun was had by all! (As well as lotsa food and neat tech stuff!)
