Feeling Chillin'
Hearing TV! 'American Idol' Blog 'n WatchWelcome back to my 'American Idol' Blog 'n Watch!
The usual disclaimer: This is jotted as I watch the show. It's not spellchecked and it is peppered with my own personal opinions.
:::sniffle:::: No more Constantine. No more ANWAR!
Tonight's themes for the five remaining contestants are Lieber and Stoller (rock 'n roll classics like 'Jailhouse Rock'), the other This Week's Billboard Top 40. Huh. They are singing two songs each tonight. Kewl.
Lieber & Stoller classics first --
Anthony is singing 'Poison Ivy.' He's wearing glasses tonight. He's doing okay with the song. I haven't heard this one since I was a kid. Poison Ivy-y-y-y. Not a bad song selection at all, IMO. Randy says out of tune in beginning. "I'm looking for the winner, Dude." Paula likes that he chose something fun. Simon says "insipid amateurish performance -- must do better in second song." Heh... Anthony says his contacts expired. ;-)
Ah, I like the song Scott is doing -- 'On Broadway.' The song has always been a favorite of mine. His voice is perfect for it. Dang, how do large guys find clothes 5X too big? He looks silly. Good performance, though - IMO. Randy: "Pitch problems, but you pulled it out again." Paula loved it. (Big surprise, eh?) Simon: "Probably your best performance."
Vonzell... 'Treat Me Nice' - sung originally by Elvis Presley. Uh-oh. I'm not thrilled. She seems a bit off to me, but looks very pretty! Of course, I could be hearing off. I want her to do well. I like Vonzell. I'll treat her nice and won't say what Simon may say. Randy: "Best vocals of a song I don't really know. Incredible performance." Paula: "Nicey, nice, yada, yada." Simon: "Elements were very good, but overall a bit of a mess. Childish, cutesy, all over the place."
Bo Bice - 'Stand By Me.' Good choice for his voice and style. His usual quality, IMO. He knows how to give a performance and has a good voice. Randy: "Yo, right song. You are on your way!" Paula: "Gush, right song, gush, yada." Simon: "You chose the best song by a mile."
Carrie is singing 'Trouble' originally by Elvis. Her hair has been straightened or something. Good. Good. She's putting a lot into the vocals and playing to the camera and crowd. Looks like she's having fun. I think she nailed it. :-) Randy: "The kind of record you should make... just like Bo." Paula: "My favorite performance of yours -- you're star." Simon: "You have to give your fans exactly what they want and you just did it."
This Week's Billboard Chart Songs --
Anthony - Um, it's a ballad. His voice is strong. 'Incomplete' I think is the song name. Good performance. Much better than he did earlier. Randy: "Okay, only 5 out of 10 compared to Backstreet Boys." Paula: "Good job." Simon: "You chose the right song, did very well." (No wonder I don't know the song."
Scott is talking about his fashion coordinator making him look good for his fans. @@ Like last week's theme, this week's Billboard Top 40 is nowhere even showing on my music knowledge scale. Not my cuppa. I don't like this performance of his... not sure what song it is. Randy: "Check it, man. You did it again. Bryan McKnight song." Paula: "Joy, joy, gush, yada." Scott: "I'm not going home... had to do my thing to show Simon." Simon: "You were more flat than you were in tune."
I just like Vonzell. She seems like good people. Strong start to another song whose title I don't know. Something about "when you tell me you love me, etc." Nice ending. Randy standing ovation: "Yo, yeeah. Perfect vocal." Paula: "Only heard all the Idols sing it." - AHA - now I know the song! <g> Simon: "Very vulnerable. Weak."
Bo - Now, I actually KNOW this song. "How Far is Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys. Not my favorite performance of his. More the song choice than off key or anything. I think I like him singing songs with more "oomph" to them. Randy and Paula standing clapping. Randy: "You da Captain of the Dog Pound!" Paula: "Fantastic, fantastic. You rule. Yada!" Simon: "You're making the others look like amateurs."
Carrie is closing out the show. Does it surprise you that I don't know the song? Whatever it is, it's mellow and she seems to be doing very well, IMO. A good song choice for her style and voice. Randy: "Another perfect vocal performance from you." Paula: "Gush, eloquent, yada, yada." Simon: "Other than the fact that the performance was a bit robotic, you sang it beautifully."
