Stop signs, speed bumps and turn arounds

What exactly is the point of having all three of the above mentioned on the same block? One, pick one - any one, would be sufficient. But noooooooooooooo. Not in this city.

I'm all for stop signs, although most people just blow right through them. They're just too busy talking on cell phones to pay attention (adults) or too busy trying to act like a bigger jerk than the friends in the back seat (teens). Maybe it's the volume of the music coming out of the car (both)? Maybe the deafening noise somehow affects vision? Hmmm ... maybe someone should do a study.

The speed bump thing I'm not so sure about. If they're on the same block as say, a school or a church, and there's only one or two then okay I guess. But for a ten mile radius of the school or church, on EVERY block AND in every alley? COME ON.

The turn arounds are pure stupidity. Why oh why would you place them on one way streets that already have a minimum of two speed bumps on them (each block, for miles)?

We, in this city, are paying a higher price than most for gas. It certainly ISN'T HELPING fuel efficiency.

The city could have saved a lot of money buy just hiring more police officers to patrol instead of wasting it on construction of more things that are being ignored by drivers. The police department is always crying about how they "don't have the manpower". Gives me SUCH a sense of peace.

I continue to walk everywhere I go, but occasionally I have to drive. I'm very happy that it's only occasionally. If I had to drive more than I do I'd probably end up sitting with a group of strangers somewhere in an anger management program .... Hello. My name is Sue.......................

why?

What happened to being kind (in thought and action) to other people?

What happened to respect (of people, property, opinions, SELF)?

What happened to common courtesy?

Why all of the attitude?

Why are so many people so damn rude?

Because everyone else has an attitude (the bigger the better)?

Because you watch it every time you turn on your television, no matter what you choose to watch?

Does being rude to others make you feel better about yourself? Is it a bully/power thing?

Because it seems to have become accepted behavior?

why?

ewwww ....

It finally happened. I've been waiting knowing that soon I'd walk out onto my deck, or out the front door and be totally disgusted.

Cicadas.

They invaded a good portion of this city a few weeks back, but there were some places, like the block I live on, where you neither saw or heard them. We'd go on our nightly walks and see them, a live carpet of them on top of a dead carpet of them on sidewalks, in the streets and even piled as high as some curbs. Driving by the woods is deafening, damn those ugly little suckers are LOUD. They're ankle deep in the woods.

Then last night while we were sitting on the deck, I heard them. I couldn't help but hear them. My immediate reaction was, ah sh*t. That's become my reaction every time I see or hear them. They've found us, in a big way. I cringe when I hear them, especially when they fly into something. It sounds like a zapping noise, like those electric mosquito lamp things only much louder. I jump when I see them. I've been jumping a lot. Have you ever noticed how exhasted you get when you've been surprised repeatedly? It takes a toll.

They have provided brief periods of ...... entertainment ..... I guess you could call it. It's like watching a sporting match.

Birds vs Cicadas.

We cheer each time a bird swoops and grabs one in the air.

I'm DEFINATELY on the birds side.

I even came up with a name for our team.

The CiKillers.

the act you've know for all these years

It was 40 years ago today, Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play.

Wow! Wah-ha-ha-ow.

See what can happen when great minds work together?

Genius.

another wonder

The pic of my pooch is now a still picture. I didn't do anything to change it, didn't know what to do. Maybe my computer is possessed? Maybe my saying out loud that I wanted a still picture made it so?

Okay .................. I want to win a million bucks, I want to win a million bucks, I want to win a million bucks....................

that's it .......... tick me off some more

WHY is the picture of my dog in a previous entry moving?

I didn't change anything.

I don't want the picture to move.

I just want a FREAKING STILL PICTURE.

NO MOVING.

you see, this is an example of one of the reasons I deleted my previous journal.

venting to prevent bursting

It never fails to amaze the hell out of me how people turn instantly dumb when I'm the one asking for help, which I seldom do.

I guess the time has come for them to learn that they, from now on, will get the same vague noanswer, if I answer at all, with the same blank look on my face when I'm asked by them for anything.

I give what I get.
