This is one of those events that any of us old-timers alive then will always remember.  I was eight years old and positively enthralled.

one of those events that we all remember - where we were, who we were with, what else was happening.  i was still young enough to be footloose in the summer, that July I was in Oregon working in a newly-established vineyard of friends of mine, tying and pruning vines, spending days outside in the sun on the hillside, with an eagle's nest in the trees on top of the hill.  I remember watching the TV broadcast, then going outside to lie in a field and just look at the actual moon and wonder what this meant for the future of our world.

I remember watching this on tv.  I was glued to the tube.  It was great stuff.  It still seems more unbelievable and more touching than any of the space stuff they show us today.
