Responsibility
Yeah, this color is very appropriate today. Just a few hours ago, I had a 16 year old put his truck into the back end of my vehicle. My vehicle was parked at the time, so the momentum pushed my truck into an apartment building wall. My truck didn't go all the way through the wall, but it broke out the siding on the wall. As J tried to reassure me, luckily, I wasn't in the truck at the time and the kid's parents have insurance. The impact into the wall did a pretty good number on my bumper and hopefully hasn't done any damage to the rest of the truck.
But it still irks the crap out of me by what the kid said. This is the reason I was beyond pissed at him. See, it wasn't his fault because when he was having engine trouble with his little Ford Ranger he was trying to push it out of the road with a good Samaritan who had happened by and he wasn't behind the wheel. BOTH of them were out pushing the truck. I wanted to ask him, "Hey, genius, the truck doesn't steer itself, what did you think would happen?" It's one of those moments that makes you think and say "WTF????!!!!!" And he walked away after it happened because he needed to go get gas or jumper cables to start his truck. No apparent concern about finding the owner of the truck to let them know what had occurred or taking responsibility for his actions and lack of thinking. I don't think he was planning to try to find the owner of the truck he just pushed into a wall. Again, luckily for me the damn thing didn't start to begin with and Touie, the Devil Child, picked that moment to need to use the facilities. I doubt that I'd have gotten a knock on the door from the kid who was responsible for the damage.
Thus, my entry today about responsibility. Responsibility for actions. Taking consequences for stupidity, wrong doing and just general moronic behavior that some blame on others or inanimate objects.
I've recently heard of a woman who is suing 6 casinos in New Jersey for not stopping her from continued gambling and basically losing every cent she had. This is not an uneducated woman, I understand she's a lawyer. I don't know about the judge who will be hearing this case, but if I were the judge I would tell this woman "WTF???!!! Are you a moron? Take responsibility for your actions! Case dismissed!"
Oh, the mortgage crisis. Read the fine print! You don't get a loan for a $300,000 home when your credit and your bottom line can't afford it. Never get an adjustable rate on your mortgage where you can't afford it after 3 years. Fixed rate, people!!! The financial companies, shame on them for approving the loan. But they did not twist the arms of the signers on these loans. These people should have read every word of the contract and reread it until they understood. Never sign anything you don't understand the consequences of. By signing, it means you understand and agree to those terms. "WTF????!!!!"
Is it just me, or is taking responsibility for your actions gone the way of the dinosaurs these days? Is being responsible an unusual characteristic now a days, like having honor, loyalty, being truthful and having character? It seems that these characteristics are few and far between. I realize I'm being a cynic and I'm sounding jaded. I just want to bang my head against a wall for the lack of decency and common sense that I see. The things that once were common are not the norm any longer.
