And his solution: (I guess it's called writer's block...)

or not.

"...Basically, while I do a lot of smaller things with this job, the big overall job here is to be useful for you guys. The more useful I am to you, the more fun this whole blogging thing can be for the whole lot of us -- and (he said, leaning in conspiratorially) the less excuse AOL will have to can my lazy butt. I like this job. I'd like to keep it. That means I have to at least look busy. ..."

"..and ya know, neighbors help other neighbors when someone sets their house ablaze.

In fact, as the founding community - we have a responsibility to sound the alarm to all new neighbors here - rather than see anyone else get hurt.

If our "distruptive" behavior is construed as bad PR for AOL - well, too bad -

they're the ones holding the matches."

"It's unfortunate that the execs are ignorant to what the customers already know - which is that AOL is a train wreck happening in slow motion - obscenely fascinating, but at the same time, horrifying to watch.

Some of us are just here to mourn the death of something that was once good.

And some of us are just hanging around to see it finally crumple.

And the real shame is that the whole thing was/is totally preventable.

But they'll never learn that."

"Though, if I were in AOL's position, I'd sooner agitate a planet of barbarians, than a town of incisive journalists. 100 users? We just went international (and, that's how we warm-up).

#466...comments RE the recent aol ad debacle

This is not frivilous or trivial, and I think everybody at aol needs to think seriously about what we are saying. You guys will report for work tomorrow as usual... we have lost a forum that we treasured and believed in.

"...wanderlust satisfies

their soul's prayers

gently cocooning lifes

injuries with silken

band-aids wrapped ever-so

mercifully at the base

eternity planted as

seeds sowed casually

salvation weeps uncontrollably."

"...Sure, I wanted everyone to win.  I admit that.  And in some respects, most of you have won, even if you weren't nominated, by virtue of the chance to see the parade of great journals that appeared on the nominees lists and that also appeared at Vivian's nomination campaign journal and Steven's journals search site.  It's not like there's any shortage of talent in J-land...and every time you set virtual foot in a good journal you've never read before, you've won something..."

simply - thank you a million times..thank you! to you Pat, Vivian, gregg, betty, annie, brian, steven, andi, charley, karen, jennifer, and trish - and anyone else that made this whole thing possible.

I totally understand this was a monumental undertaking from the get go - and you all deserve kudos for pulling it off in such a grand and glittery fashion.

for me it was an honor to just be nominated - (I am still shocked - given the volume of journals out there now) and as slac once said: "the winning is just the gravy".

I feel people got a small taste of the diversity of this wonderful recipe we affectionately call j-land...and like any good cup of soup - you always go back for more...the categories were just a few of the secret seasonings...

j-land - in a word - okay two, - is great - and there are so many journals yet to discover. I dunno about you - but i'm hungry to taste a bit more...

and that, my friends, is a perfect accompanyment to my grilled cheese sammich here...

big melted kisses to all of you...

flora.
