Evidence vs emotion, not too proud to take advice from a 16 yr old
I change the time in my car for daylight savings & come back in the house. Don is using half a roll of packing tape to get 2 kitten hairs off his shirt.
Me: Watcha doin'?
Don: Removing the secondary transfer kitten hair from having hugged you earlier.
Me:(benumbed look) Do you want to spell that for me, Don? Secondary who?
Don:(ignoring comment) I didn't realize you'd left.
Me: I was just changing my clock.
Don: The car clock? I changed it already. I am surprised you didn't realize that. Didn't you check it before you changed it?
Me:(k, maybe a little snotty) How would I realize my clock, in my car, would be changed, when *I* didn't change it?
Don: Uh, by looking at it.
Me(GLARE): I didn't look to see if it had already been changed because I didn't think I had a car clock fairy who....
Don:(laughing good naturedly) You are so defensive when I try to help you. I like helping you.
Me: I.AM.NOT.DEFENSIVE. (said defensively)
Calling Chicklet
Me: (nice talk for 5 minutes) Honey, am I defensive, do you think?
Chicklet: Ha Ha Ha. With Daddy you mean? Sure, all the time, if he trys to help you or take care of you. I'm like that too, when he gives me advice. Remember you even told me I'd grow out of it?(pause) Maybe I won't. Then did he laugh at you in that understanding way? Like you are so cute when you are defensive?
Me: Oh(hell) yes, he did.
Chicklet: I always want to emancipate myself when he does that, but don't worry, it passes.
