Mahna Mahna -- Up Close and Personal

Silly | Doo-doo-da-doodoo

No freeeeekin way!!  Click on the image and see what my fabulous fun friend, David sent me today.

I've been getting so many emails and comments about the song that plays on my journal.  I thought it was originally from Sesame Street.  In my head, the "doodoos" are replaced with "beebee-padeedeep"  But the more info I find, the less I remember.  [If anyone has more accurate information, please share.]  The one that most people seem to remember is this version from The Muppet Show.  It features Mahna Mahna and the two Snowths.  It's still just as funny today!  Probably the best muppet sketch ever!  And it wouldn't be complete without two grumpy old hecklers and balcony banter:

#1:  The question is, what is a Mahna Mahna?

#2:  The question is, who cares?

Ahhh yes, fun for the whole family.  Who couldn't love this frazzled little muppet-guy?  Such a hipster-rocker man!

Thanks for the link David. You rock.  Now, where's your blog?

I recently came upon the knowledge that Mahna Mahna was actually written by acclaimed Italian composer Piero Umilliani. He also wrote the song Crepuscolo Sul Mare which is featured in the movie Ocean's Twelve. Strange contrast.

I distinctly remember this song as a recurring bit on Captain Kangaroo

Oh my gosh!  I love this song and I cannot find it anywhere!  If you have the audio or video file, would you please send it to me?  shadow_girl88@yahoo.com  Thanks.

This song is also a bit of a recurring theme on the new NBC sitcom Committed.  In the very first episode we see Marni, the lead female character, on a date with a guy and she wants him to go "Mahna mahna" while she does the "do doo do doo doo" and he totally doesn't get it, so her response is to say something like "If you want, I can do the mahna mahnas."  She's a quirky one.  Also, her cell phone ringtone is this song so it pops up every few episodes.

This one has the beebee-padeedeeps instead.  I think its the Spanish version.
