Presents all around...
I know what I am going to do with some of my tax credit check I got tonight, I am buying 3 copies of "Dreaming in Color." I felt so bad about Nurse Pam being so ill that I decided to send her one for first look at it, and then I am asking her to send it on to Nelishia and after her Sheria who writes On My Mind, and then back to me and I will send it to England to Jeanne who lives by the Lakes. I also bought another copy to give to my grandson Jamal who is just about the same age as Quentin who plays Stretch, the black kid who gets beat up and nearly killed by a kid in an initiation rite to join a white supremicist group. I told Jamal tonight I was sending him a copy as soon as I got it as both of his uncles and his cousin Scott had been involved in the making of this DVD. He acted very pleased. He was also pleased that Dan and I are going to get out to see one of his high school tennis matches next week. (I will get there if I have to ride the bus!)
Raymond is leaving for Utah tomorrow or the next day. He will be gone close to a week touching base with Utah relatives and to talk about the Heritage Festival coming up this summer in Boulder. He is feeling pretty good, with some shaky days. He got a new sponsor in AA who is a former heart surgeon! He has been going to a lot of meetings and says he wants to take me to one when he gets back.
He was feeling bad beause the principal of Metro Arts already told Fernando he did not want him to try to do any more big productions like "Dreaming in Color," that it was too hard on the kids! We expect kids to hold up under a grueling high school sports season, but not do theater productions? The kids were wonderful. I think it was harder on the principal! Maybe it was one of those songs that did it like "God is White." Raymond said he was a little bit afraid to include that song, but he decided it was the only explanation for some of the racism we still experience across America. We forget that God administers to everyone and I believe wants the best for all his children.
Leaving a job after nine years of such intense creative activity is hard on Raymond and the kids who have had him as a teacher. They will probably not have another teacher who will so encourage them to write plays from their own lives and experiences. I thought his ten minute play festival each year was outstanding. You can get a lot of drama and comedy in ten minutes as is being illustrated by Caffeine. He was also a very entertaining teacher of improvisation which he demonstrates in "Dreaming in Color."
American Idol was sad tonight. Ramielle had to go home and I felt like crying as Kristy so profusely did. These singers seem particularly attached to one another this year. It is very endearing. Brooke was weeping, too. And Simon had to apologize to so many people! Ryan asked Dolly Parton if she would ever let him in Dollywood. She said he would receive a free ticket just like everybody else. (It is obvious Simon does not like country) Being from England, I guess he does not 'get it' as he said. But it was not the contestents' fault that Dolly Parton, country singer, was chosen to be the mentor this week, and one of her songs was to be the country classic they would sing.
Nelishia, by the way, has embedded in her journal 3 songs by Phil Stacy, a cousin of hers, who was on the American Idol last year. I just loved these songs. I think he is better now than he was on the show.
Good night everyone. I will be back tomorrow with another memoir entry. Doc and I are going grocery shopping tomorrow morning. Then I will go to the bank! I had a wonderful lunch from Thai Elephant today complete with tofu and veggies. By the way if anyone else wants to see "Dreaming in Color" just let me know and I will put you on the list. I will send you one and you can send it back to me when you have finished viewing it.

Well done to your Raymond. He is doing splendidly with his AA group. Isn't he? It must be so hard for him. Thanks for including me as one of those whom you would like to watch Dreaming in Colour.
I cannot wait to see it. It is a shame we can't all watch it together as Nelishia suggested. That would be fabulous!
Jamal is a handsome lad! How wonderful of you to make the journey to watch him play. Let us know how he gets on.
Hugs

Today was a bad day. Just don't feel right yet. Yanno? This really was tough.
Hope you have a fun day tomorrow with Doc.
