Sister Linda's exciting report about how her reading went at the Beat Museum in SF...
We went down and sit up for the poetry reading early. We had a whole wall given to us for the painting and the poems. It looked pretty good. We rode back down with Rich and Rissy for the reading and had a dinner in an Italian resturant, which was delicous.
Matt Sesow, who started out in Silicon Valley up here found out that the owner of the Beat Museum also came from Silicon Valley and they even worked at the same plant somewhere for awhile and both left corporate American for the arts.
Matt went up and talked about his painting first. There was at least 60 people there and they had to bring out more chairs. The guy who was running the place didn 't seem to get excited about the reading until he saw the pictures going up. We got a good crowd for just the little advertising he did.
I read for about 40 to 45 minutes. I gave them a good reading I thought and got a lot of compliments after. One girl said she cried twice during my reading. Another one said one poem set chills down her back. There was a drunk guy who kept yelling out.."This is the kind of reading we need at this place." Someone said the same guy went to sleep once though or passed out for awhile. Soheyl of Sore Dove was very complimentary and said, "Wow...you really wowed them. You really got into it." I think it went as well as it could go and we sold about 20 books right there...most for $35 each, plus some to a couple of other bookstores. Matt sold one painting and Rich and Carissa bought one with the poem on it. They bought the one I wrote on that said, BUKOWSKI UNDIGESTED DOESN'T MAKE ME ANY LESS BECAUSE ALMOST NO ONE IN THE WORLD CAN DIGEST BUKOWSKI. It doesn't fit too well in Carissa's house, but Scott and I thought it could got over the litter box, the place where Matt said his sister hung her painting.
We went over to Sprizzs ( or something like that) A famous old bar in Northbeach, that had a piano man playing every little while. A couple of table of people came over. We didn't stay too late as Carissa had been to a birthday party all day in the cold and wasn't feeling too good. One of Rich's friends from work came to the reading. Matt and his girl friendstayed until late.
We met them at the Embarrcarrdaro (sp?) in the morning for breakfast and the kids got to see that Matt really did have only one arm. We got to see some of Matt's girlfriend's painting. She is also an artist and teachs art. We had a nice long visit over breakfast.
Max (cousin) came down on Sunday and we went for a short thriftstore shopping spree. We both found a few things we liked and go in on a sale. I made some enchiladas for dinner. I try and get Scott to thriftstore shot and he just isn't any good at it. Even though he did find a hat in a Vintage store, which they love over here. Max is always fun with the thriftstores. We are flying out today. We are going to make our own way to the airport on the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit). That should be an adventure. (copied from the family web site and written by Linda)

I'm glad it was such a good showing and such a good event. How wonderful to hear that you've "wowed" them, huh?
Glad it went well.

I am so sorry I was not able to attend. It is not that often that someone from Jland comes to my neck of the woods...especially to present their art.
I am glad it went well. I hope everyone survived the cold winds we had over the weekend.
