American Idol and a study in color...
I don't think writing about American Idol is going to strain me. Gina has been sick and busy and not getting around to her American Idol review, so maybe you need two to read, mine and hers. Anybody else? Well, I loved David Archuleta's "Love me Tender" the most. The songs came from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but I thought Jason Cook looked like the real thing singing about teen age wasteland. I thought he was going to blow us away tonight with rock and roll, but with my bad hearing I did not get the first one.
But that little Sayesha, after singing Sam Cook's "There is a Change a Comin,'" started crying after Randy criticized her severely and I just cried and cried along with her. I think Randy is a black man who thought she had kind of messed with a great black singer's music, but thank goodness Paula and that mean Simon did not agree. I think they both thought that Sayesha had earned the right to sing "There is a Change a Comin'", and I am sure she felt very emotional, too, like a lot of people, about a black man fighting so hard to be the democratic candidate.
I must have been thinking about my dear black grandson, Jamal, who reminds me in looks so much of Obama and who was raised by a white mother, white grandparents, and is just black as Sheria says in On Her Mind in his skin but no different than any other person in this country. Why, why do some people still act so hateful about the color of a person's skin?
By the way I was glad to see that Obama won today in North Carolina, Sheria's state. I hope she is celebrating tonight. http://journals.aol.com/aimer/on-my-mind/
I must stop and tell a story here about what a black kid has to put up with. For one thing when Jamal's African 'fro got real big when he was a little kid people could not keep their hands off his hair. His cousin Dante hadn't been walking very long and he took a look at that 'fro and after thinking it over, he ran up as fast he could behind Jamal who was sitting down and plunged both hands in that 'fro and played with it as fast as he could until Jamal yelled at him to stop!
Dante also told him later on when he was in school he had learned all about President Lincoln that day and how he freed the slaves. He looked at Jamal and said, "You are black so he freed you!"
Jamal and big hair Buddies Dante and Jamal
Brothers Jamal and Ethan a shade different
Maybe Jamal can be president someday too!

I thought David Archuleta was the best but I am a fan of Syesha too and think she has earned the right to be there. She did so well on the Sam Cook song in my personal opinion. Everyone wants to touch a big head of hair I think. Fro's are so soft and beautiful in my opinion again. Those are some darling boys. I hope they do well when they grow up some day. I believe they will.

I thought Archuleta was the best one last night. I'm sorry to say this but I don't like Syesha at all...I can't believe she has been there this long.

Connor and Hunter (half black) can also run for President...for that matter maybe our girls will make it too. That red-headed Garret would look great in office... All Great Americans! I loved David Archuleta's Love Me Tender too. What a hauntingly beautiful voice.

I am also an American Idol fan and I think that David Archuleta has the sweetest voice and he delivers the emotion in the songs that he sings that make him seem far older than his years.
I just want to say that Jamal is a handsome young man. He no doubt takes some of his good looks from his lovely grandmother. You are a wonderful lady, my dear Gerry.--Sheria
