A Call to Action

The Jets are one of the NFL's worst teams. Any hopes of having a decent season are distant memories. At this point in lost years, fans typically stop showing up to the Meadowlands. It is an inconvenient trip for numerous fans, and it makes no sense to see a lousy team play meaningless games. This Sunday should be an exception.

Curtis Martin is being honored at halftime. The man gave everything he had to this franchise from 1998 to 2005. Most athletes are not role models. Fathers can use Curtis Martin as an example for their sons not only on how to play football but on how to conduct oneself off the field. He took the field more times than anybody can count while injured. Surely there were times when it would have been easy for him to sit. He probably did not want to play through agonizing pain, but he did out of duty to his teammates and his fans.

The Steelers have a national following. Their fans fill up stadiums in road games. These fans will undoubtedly target Jets fans who do not want to make the trip to the Meadowlands this Sunday looking for tickets. This is a chance to repay Curtis Martin. You may not feel like going. Inconvenience yourself to take part in this game just as he did so often. At least do not let any tickets fall into the hands of Steelers fans. If you do not have a ticket and have the ability to get one, do so. That will make sure a Pittsburgh fan does not get that seat. Curtis Martin deserves to get a standing ovation from a stadium full of the Jets fans to whom he gave his heart soul. Do not cheapen this special moment by allowing Steelers fans to experience this moment.
