Tom Rock reports that Herman Edwards' return to the Meadowlands as the Jets take on the Chiefs in Week 17 will likely be flexed out of NBC's primetime Sunday spot.
It still might have to be a 4 o'clocker because of those logistics, but WatchDog and the other guy both reported back saying that there is no way NBC will keep the Jets-Chiefs game as their Sunday Night showcase that week.
The idea of flex scheduling was to make sure meaningful and competitive games got the prime time slot late in the season. It was always difficult because of the NFL's unpredictability to do so. This is a perfect example. Along with the Edwards storyline, this was a matchup between a pair of Playoff teams a year ago. It seemed likely at the start of the year at least one of these squads would have something to play for and the other side would at least be respectable. The only people surprised that this will occur are people who do not understand flex scheduling.
