Walking toward the back door.............

I think the alerts for posts/comments will be the thing most of us will miss. But on Google Reader you can get the updates on Blogger. I'm just spoiled having it in my mailbox but now I'm walking toward the back door and will eventually get used to new habits. I hope everyone will make their way on over to my new place and please click on "Follower". Once again here is the address:   http://asalwaysalice.blogspot.com/

It's a new day and a new way :)...........

New link to Blogger

Here it is:  http://asalwaysalice.blogspot.com/

That's my new address and I know I'll miss this one after beating my brains out (with help from my friends) to figure all this out; well, most of it.  I couldn't get a picture to upload on the new homestead but what can I expect with only one try:(    Come on over for the housewarming anyway asap :)...................

We're just trying to get back to normal slowly from all the damage Ike left in his rampage. I know we had it easy compared to the other hard-hit places so I can't imagine how people there can cope with it all. My nerves are still shot and may be for some time.  My carport was tossed onto my car totaling it, storage building torn up, trees downed and twisted off at the tops and I'm sure that every screw in this heavy duty metal roof has to be very loose. I did get settled with the car insurance and bought another car yesterday. I've had plenty of help this past week from one of my X's sisters. A couple of the others brought ice, etc. Out of phones for about a week and power for ten days. Ike was so much worse than Rita here at our places out here.     My son had had the accident (rear-ended in a flat-bed city truck on the job) Monday morning and Ike hit us Friday night. He had been staying here already so he was here that night and so was my dad. My daughter and her son and daughter took off to Abilene but we had to stay here because of the back and neck injuries my son sustained in the accident. He said he didn't care if his back was broke if we ever get another hurricane, he will find a way to leave. If I hear the word hur... I'm gonna assume they are saying hurry outta there. You can never in your wildest nightmares imagine the horrid sound of it and I'm at a loss for words to say and it makes me extra nervous just writing here about it so I'll let it go at this.

My son will be off from the job for a long time I'm afraid as we think he has lots of nerve damage and your back doesn't just heal overnight with a few pills of sorts. He has his lawyer of course. If the city had their way, he'd be back in one of their trucks. Anyway, he's back at his place and trying to take it easy as possible which is tough to not do anything with storm damage all around. I don't know how many trees were down around my dad's but you can't see his house from the road for all the dead trees. My daughter had to get an apartment in Lumberton as her house got damaged so much and she stayed in her very nice garage until the other day when she got the apartment. I'm sure she will get a good job right by the apartments at a rental center. A lady called me yesterday from there as she put me down as a reference. We'll eventually (fingers crossed) get things looking better but it's gonna take some heavy equipment to do that. Sure is nice to know my youngest son has all that sort of stuff to run his business. I'm sure he will help when the time comes. He and his family met us in the town where I got my car and bought us lunch. I've got a Chrysler 300 for a good ride outta here IF another storm decides to punish us again.

OK I've had my phone line tied up long enough so will try to get back to reading more j's when I can. Thanks for all of you and your concern :)..............

BIG BUG HUGS..............

Wednesday, September 3, 2008
Edit Entry Delete Entry
Love bugs........

It seems these days are wrapped around getting around the "love" bugs. By late this eve just double what you see and that's what it will look like. My brain is just one big wad of black bugs. I let the doggies in first thing in the morn while coffee is making, feed them and grab the heavy duty leaf blower and go from the screen door all the way across the cement and under the carport and then the car. You may not believe it, but they can and may get even thicker. I was so hoping we would get enough wind to blow them away but the way a little bit of wind blew only blew more of them in from the south where the rice fields are (imported from China or somewhere to eat fungus from the rice). Anyway, it's hard to focus on much of anything else as they even get inside by getting on your clothes and coming through the doors every time one is opened.  I may be looking for a cave before too long. Getting brain fog just thinking about it so just count your blessings if you don't have them.I don't remember where I got this graphic but it certainly fits the occasion......tks.....

Gustav

I'm very pleased to say that I am still here at home and not so pleased to say that the black "love bugs" are still here as well :(      Maybe by tomorrow we will get enough wind and/or rain to blow them away.  I don't think at this point that we will lose power but certainly not counting on it. Got the generator ready just in case. My daughter called me at 12am last night and said the trip was a breeze. No more traffic than usual. She and my grand daughter decided to go to Hillsboro where her son has been since Friday with his X step-mother and his three little brothers. They all get along very well now but that's not how it has always been. Anyway, she was happy to be there and she loves that area of Texas.  I just hope that the storm will die down and not do very much damage. Now I need to put things back outside on both porches and get it back to the norm. Not a fun job but...........

Last of summer (by the calendar)

Summer 08Here's a picture of the last of summer's flowers around. Not so many blooms anymore. The white is crepe myrtle, red is turk's turban and of course the bluish color is morning glories. Flowers in my yard have to survive on their own so I don't have very many.  Of course, our summers last a long time as far as the heat goes.

About the black "love bugs", they  are seasonal twice a year and they can last as long as two months. I've seen them at times when they were black clouds swarming the house and then sometimes there aren't so many. Just have to stay out of them as much as possible and the porches are a "must have". One great thing this year is that we've had no mosquitoes so it's not all bad here in this big thicket (jungle to me).

Everyone around here is concerned about the hurricane because "Rita" came from that same area and we got plenty of that one. I'm not sure if we would leave again or not. If my dad wants to stay then you can bet I'm not going anywhere.

Breakfast time so catch you all later :)..........

Bug season........................

Well,

our black "love bugs" are back. You can see that most of them are stuck together. They are everywhere in my yard and around the house but they really are attracted to white. They are much worse now than in this picture. It's really hard to get them cleaned off if you get into them on the highway. You can just imagine:(

Some shots of Oscar & Meyers on the porch. Meyers found my dust rag and is keeping it away from Oscar in a little game of chase.

Oscar is just not as quick as Meyers with his longer legs.

I finally decided to try to figure out how to unblock the blocked modem on my new Compaq that has Vista but I got nowhere with it. I was on this computer searching all the information my brain could absorb 'till it was just not absorbing any of it. There's nothing wrong with the computer and it's not aol for a change. The tech who came to fix this one had no idea what the trouble was and he had to get back to Houston or he would have tried to look into it. It worked just fine (if you like Vista and I don't) for three whole weeks. Yippie!!  But I still have this one going for the time being and eventually I'll get the other one  untangled I hope.......

Just remembering..........

Here's a story you may find a little amusing. Many years ago my first husband had to go on a job in Hopewell, Va. during the summer so I decided that the kids and I would go along. We had to take what we could find to rent quickly and the quickest decent place we found is what we took. It was an old apartment building upstairs above a grocery store and washateria. When I say old, I really do mean old because the kitchen sink was built so low I had to bend over to use it. I figured back in those days they had the kids washing the dishes maybe. Also, the bathroom had one of those old deep tubs with the legs on it. The kids just absolutely loved it and had no problem getting them to take a bath. So one Friday eve hubby and the guy he worked with (he and his wife were renting a place across the street) didn't show up when they were supposed to and she said that she would bet they had stopped at a bar in a town not too far away after work. Well, knowing how hubby just couldn't drink more than a couple of beers and NOT be goofy, I said that I didn't think he would do that. He seldom ever touched the stuff because he knew how it affected him. She still wanted to go see so we went to check and sure enough there was their truck. They traded rides every day. We went on to the grocery store for a short time and when we got back their truck was at their apartment. The kids and I went to our apartment and hubby was not there. Not too long she called me and said I needed to come and get him; he was drunk. mmmmmmmm! When I walked in he started cursing and just basically being really stupid. He never used foul language under normal circumstances. He always said curse words were a strong way to express a weak mind. Well, his mind was very weak. So I managed to get him out of their place; had to walk him down a flight of stairs and across the street and then up the steep flight of stairs to our apartment. I was truly hoping I was invisible as I got him across the street:(   It just so happened that the big tub had stopped up that eve after the kids had bathed and I could not get it to drain. I had the plunger right there by it. Right after we got in he got really sick and went into the bathroom, sat on the edge of the bath tub to...well, you know what.........and suddenly fell over backwards into the tub of water. I had no idea how I was going to get him out with all that water in there and not much of him was showing except his face. I thought if I got the water out it would be easier to help him out. So I reached down, got the plunger and he said with the most serious look: "Go ahead and shoot me, I'm a sorry s.o.b."   I was already in tears but when he said that I had to laugh as well. After all these years I can't remember if I got the water to drain or if he managed to get out on his own or what but I can still see his face when he said that.

Gotta be on Guard :)........

Oscar and Meyers on "porch duty" ! Oscar guarding the food bowl and ...........

Meyers guarding the door!!

I took those pictures through the patio door to the back porch. They like to hang out back here........

This week was supposed to be my daughter's last day at her job after her two-week notice that she was quitting was up. She was fed up with one of the owner's grandson being such an obnoxious @$$. He is so disrespectful to everyone who works there except the lady manager who had her say with them a long time ago about him. He uses fowl language of the worst kind and is just a spoiled brat in general. Anyway, my daughter told the lady manager that the only way she would consider working there would be on her terms. She would work only Monday through Thursday BEHIND the counter only and the brat was to stay in his territory. So yesterday the lady manager told her she wanted her to stay on the jobs and on those terms. I'm so glad that she has stood up for herself and I hope it works out well for her. A fourth cousin who just graduated from school last year and lives about a mile from here has gone to work there also and they can now trade rides which is really a good thing it being about thirty-two miles to the job. We'll see how it goes.........
