Feeling Happy

treadmil exercise

my stepson gave me a treadmill three days ago. I ride it everytime I watch TV. Can't call me a couch potatoe. haha  I usually walk for 1 hour a day presently and will  include the exercise bike in a week.Building body up a little at a time. Had a relapse last month. Got pnemonia and was put on strong antibiotic, leviquin. Ended up itching all over and now my joints have been hurting for over three weeks now. Figured this was from the antibiotic as this happened to me about 6 months ago and I didnt figure it out then. We all learn as we go. Now walking regardless of the joint pain because know they will go away eventually. Going to ask doc for dif med next time. Thats it for now.

Just did another fev1 test at that time and my fev1 was 38% of predicted. Which is severe COPD. Seeing that I didnt quit smoking back in 1996 when it first was reported on ex-ray. My oxygen exchange is now damaged. See , I can breath in ok, but my lungs cannot get rid of the co2 build up. To be honest I feel fine that is what is scary about this disease. Had it not been for that nurse I would be dead by now. I am on oxygen 24 hours a day. There is no cure. But you can prolong life if YOU QUIT SMOKING
That is why this is so important to me to have the states include the spirometer test and the oximeter test. Because our doctors dont always catch the real curlprit. My story is an example of patients falling through the cracks and not getting the treatment they really need. Believe me this would help smokers to quit and teenagers to not think of picking up one in the first place.

copd. Didnt know that at the time. In feb of 2002 i did a treadmill test was tired all the time even though i did alotof running around on my job the test said I was severly deconditioned and my doc said he was going to talk to my other doc about the test. No one ever came back and talked to me.The test showed my heart was ok but I was out of shape. This was in Feb 2002 like I mentioned. Dec of 2002 I leave my job via ambulance to ER at hospital. Thought I was having a heart attack. Severe pain in chest.
Then they were going to send me home next day. Lucky for me, the nurse decided to walk me around and check my pulse ox. It dropped to 67% on my oxygen level. Needless to say I stayed in hospital and was sent home with oxygen. Finally did get to see a lung doctor.

I will tell you right now my story. Like I said I worked around chemicals and dust particles all my life and extreme heat, and I started smoking at age 13. I was doing fine mostof my life. Tried to quit smoking numerous times. Had pnemonia in 1996 on the ex-ray it also said possible copd. The doctor never told me about thepossible copd. 1999 I had a cough for about two months, had cleaned machines off at plant since 1979 and blowing off glass and also cleaning lines everyday with a chemical.
They also had the removal of abestose in 1992. Went to the doc in 1999 with dry hack. Diagnosed with bronchitis sinusitis. I guess the doc forgot that in 1996 it said possible copd. No lung function test. Then in 2000 was short of breath and doc did a spirometer test. My lungs were at 55fev1. I didnt know how to read the test. Trusting my doc all she said was "you need to quit smoking. Was never sent to lung doctor to see what damage was done. I continued to try to quit smoking. That test said boarderline

the smoking cessation class to give a report as to how good the o2sats are on these smokers when they walk for 6 min. To find out if thier sats go up or down. These two tests if preformed in the smoking cessation class will drastically help the smokers quit so they can go on in life with better quality of life. Smoking cessation classes are good to a point. But the point is minimal without the spirometer test and the walking pulse ox test. These test will determine if its time to see the lung doctor.

What I am asking those of you who happen to read this to give me feedback so I can take it to the Attorney General and get some more procedures implemented in the smoking cessation classes. We need to get signitures for each state from smokers and non smokers saying they want these procedures included in the smoking cessation classes. Because they will help the smoker to quit smoking if they have a lung function test to show these people in the classes their lung readings. Ialso want a pulse ox included in

So what I am trying to say is even if you never smoked or if you have, that copd has affected all of us in one way or another directly or inderictly. From having the disease ourselves or for a family member having the disease.
What I am frustrated about is that the Tobacco settlement money in each state is not being used for the purpose it was intended for. Instead it is used by the states for whatever purpose they chose. It has paid of the states difecits.Alot of it goes into the general fund so our our elected officials can vote for pay increases and take from the fund to pay such increases.

There is no cure for this disease. But if you quit smoking and get away from particluates if they float around at your job(or wear a respirator) and if you work and use alot of chemicals that you breath .You should insist on a respirator. Too many of us didn' know about the harm from all the mentioned above.Hopefully educating the younger generaltion will help them not to even think of picking up a ciggartte. I started smoking at 13 years of age. My lungs hadn't even developed fully and here I smoked.
