AMATUER SKETCH FROM MEMORY

Cannot remember whether or not showing my sketch from memory of my boyhood home after we settled in Oklahoma. Knew all would want to see it.

In 1933 the Great Depression had began a couple of years previously and the Drouth and Dust Storms were beginning.

Gasoline was 15 cents a gallon, coffee 15 cents a pound, sugar 5 cents a pound, Apples, Tomatos and Potatos about 50 cents a bushel unless extra nice.

No Cell Phones, TVs, or Computers.

A brand new Straight Eight Buick Cost approximately 900 dollars for the few that could afford it. Many of we Okies still had Model-Ts , some had Model A Fords.

1933 was the year that Dad's old 1924 Dodge car quit for good.

The 'Rural Electrification Program' was in progress though many or actually most were using kerosene lamps and a few had bought 'Windchargers' from the Sears or Montgomery Ward Catalog. The Windchargers could 'charge up' a 6 volt car battery and  furnish a very nice light from a 6 volt bulb which was available from the catalog.

Were people happier then ?  I believe so. Ask Great Grandpa about that.

Better Still, Pray to GOD for ANSWERS. Be Patient for an Answer. It will Come. Be happy if we can get out of bed and walk. Have a NICE YEAR.   sam

Thankyou Sam for sharing this sketch with us. It is a wonderful drawing. I used to think that maybe I was just getting older and becoming cynical about the world, but now after talking to Mama from time to time about it, and now you saying the things you say here..convinces me that things are much different now, and not always for the better. You are a wise man Sam. Very wise indeed. Hugs, Kelly

Hi Sam- I love the sketch!  Looks like a nice place to raise a family- and Ibet it would have been great to live back then.  I know things are convenient now- but not much easier.  I'm looking forward to the future though- especially when Jesus comes back!  God Bless you Sam, and have a great rest of the week.  Be well!  Carolyn http://journals.aol.com/lifesabench6/Noappologies-Biblicalperspect/

Loved your sketch Sam ~ how the prices of goods has changed since then ~ Petrol is like gold dust these days ~ I wonder if they were happier then as we are now ~ somehow I think they were ~ life seemed much less complicated ~ Ally x
