Follow up to the memory discussion

Unfortunately nothing is playing

Great comments from you guys, I always appreciate the feedback...I think its great that you want to share your opinions.

In any case, lets take the comment that
bangbang023 brought up, since that is a very valid point.  So the concept of shutting down Triton, is slightly different then AIM 5.x.  AIM 5.x is this standalone client, that was a walled garden, it neither cared nor wanted to know what other things were running on your system, thus we had to invent things like the Screen Name Service, etc. to allow other AOL features to get into the garden, but at the same time when it came to shutting down, it was a piece of cake since it knew all about its moving parts.  With Triton we are trying to move away from this, and into a different direction.  To make a long story short, Triton uses many services and we need to make sure that all of these services are shutting down properly, currently in Beta 2 that is not the case.  Is this a bug?  You betcha.  Are we looking at it? Yes we are.

The next comment from
shawnfst is a common problem in the software world, known as DLL hell, MSFT has faced it, as have many other service oriented software programs.  Since we are in Beta, and not all services are finished, it just so happens that IM is one of the closer ones' to the finish line, we are working with services that are still in early phases...long term, I believe these problems will be fixed.

bltsandwich I am glad you found my blog, I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to read it. ;-)  So your machine is by no means ancient IMHO, however, as with my comments above, performance in Beta 2 is subpar for your machine's specs.  I am sorry about that, your login problem has been noted, and is being looked at, you are not the only one to report 30 sec login times.

I truly believe going forward performance will improve, frankly it has to improve...and on that note, look for another post sometime either later tonight or tomorrow, about "Why you should upgrade your aim clients".

PS - Too bad the Pistons lost...I had trouble watching that game last night, that was one rough and tumble game...congrats to all you Spurs fans out there.

It's good to see you guys listening to your userbase. It's a nice connection and something that definitely puts you ahead of the competition. I'll definitely keep following progress because it sure as hell interests me.

Kudos to your UI guys......even my non-geek friends love how Triton looks.

Hey. I just found your blog threw neowin.net. I have emailed AOL and AIM support multiple times for this problem. My problem is, a few months ago, or it was probably a year ago, my screen name was suspended. AOL said they experienced a glitch and they would restore the database back to normal.  But my screen name wasn't restored. Is there someone I can contact about this? I mean I have used this name for years and I really don't want to give it up. If you can help me or know someone that can help, please get back to me.
