Here are some more responses to beta 4
comments. I am hoping more people feel comfortable leaving ideas,
thoughts, and as you will see below, bug reports. I very much
appreciate everyone taking time to share their thoughts, and know they
are not falling by the wayside.
2. This time around, setup was not fun. I didn't reboot my system after install, as usual, and simply couldn't run Triton until I did. Everytime I tried to run it, the AOLServiceHost.exe process (the second one) would jump up to 95% cpu useage and not doing anything. It just stayed at 95%, bringing my system to it's knees.

I can talk to our QA about this. FWIW, Triton QA engineers do read my blog, so hopefully they (and you know who you are ;-)) will feel comfortable commenting on whether or not this is a known issue.
FOLLOW UP FROM TRITON QA: Our QA has not seen this.
1. On first successful run, at the login name selection, I went to type in my screenname and it started to autofill in the letters. Upon the start of this, JIT Debugger came up with an error in the script. I, unfortunately closed out of the window, though it may be something you want to look at. I was still able to run the app, but the error did come up.

Same as above, hopefully QA can comment here, I have not seen either of these issues as of yet.
FOLLOW UP FROM TRITON QA: Any chance you can let me know what version of Java you are running and whether it is Sun Java or MS Java? This can help our qa try to reproduce the issue above.
3. Viewed my buddy's info. She had blue rain drop smileys (the ones from the AOL client) and they didn't show up. The IE style red x appeared with the text code for the smiley next to it.

This is code that still is being worked on, and as a beta we hopefully will see some of this fixed shortly.
When are themes going to be included? and Can you guys talk to some of the other developers for Browser and such and see if they can start blogging as well?

Same response as above...we are not "feature complete" since we are in a beta period.
3. Ads are back to playing sounds and actually slow things don for the split second that they load. No, don't remove the ads, but there has to be a way to convince someone to silence them.
Comment from bangbang023 - 7/22/05 1:04 PM
Ads should not be playing sounds until after traditional US work hours (think after 5PM or so). If you see/hear an ad play at say 2PM in the afternoon, please email the date and time you saw the ad, and what the ad was. I can try to follow up with our business folks.

As for the setup issue, I'm not the only person who experienced it. It was also reported by a few other users over at Neowin.

Using latest Sun Java version. I believe it's 1.5 update 2.

Is there any talk concerning outside skinning of the applications comming out from AOLs Beta Program? I was going though some of the .css, .box, and .js files and noticed that there is a warning saying that modifying the code is against the Terms of Service.
I myself would love to start writing theme packs for this however can't untill I'm sure I wont get attacked by legal. Any insights on this? Thanks for blogging and keeping us in the loop and I hate to seem like I'm attacking you guys but you know it's not everyday you get to have some impact on the next version of the worlds greatest IM application :) -
Thanks for convering some of those concerns. So you know, and I think you already know, but as long as those ads play sounds, at any time, people aren't going to be too happy. I use AIM as my primary IM protocol because I truely feel it's the best one out there, but the ads drive me nuts when I'm listening to music and suddenly have voices playing over it.
