Today was a very fast pace day here in San Diego. There were a few surprises along the way. One of the keynote speeches from this morning was made by a website called Eventful. They showed off their latest product called Eventful Demand, which allows the user to request an event for "famous or infamous" person, and if enough demand arises the event may actually happen. One example they showed was users in the San Diego area were demanding a concert from Avril Lavigne. Sort of a weird concept if you ask me, and it gets weirder when you realize the second most popular event request is an Elvis concert, good luck making that happen. I find it hard to believe that celebs' publicists are going to be watching what online demand dictates what events their clients go to. That's just my opinion. One neat thing they did show that made a lot of sense was the ability to hook your iTunes catalog into their web API, which will then see if any of the artists you listen too has concerts coming up in your area.
Later on Joel Spolsky, from the Joel on Software blog came out to review some new products that have been released in the last year. This topic deserves its own blog post alone...but needless to say he did hand out some failing grades, thank goodness we did not receive any.
At lunch we decided to go across the street to a barbeque joint. As we were walking in I noticed this sign....

Apparently, the scene where Goose is playing Great Balls of Fire on the piano was filmed there. Believe it or not the Kansas City style BBQ was pretty good too.
A couple of other great images from today. First is of our booth here at ETech right after we finished setting it up....

Last but not least...here was a very funny slide from Clay Shirky's keynote today about why groups can be their own worst enemy. I am sure all of us can relate to this...
